In many ways,MultiVersusisn’t trying to reinvent the wheel - the game is a derivative platform fighter heavily inspired by theSuper Smash Bros.franchise. However,MultiVersusdoes innovate in some surprising ways. It’s free-to-play, it features an impactful perks system, and perhaps most important of all,MultiVersusis focusing on 2v2 multiplayer instead of 1v1. A newly discovered leak shows just how dedicated Player First is to 2v2, revealing that players may even be able to share their battle pass progression.Dataminer AisulMV shared information about the leak via their Twitter account recently, posting screenshots of a system designed to allowtwoMultiVersusplayersto link their accounts. The first image shared shows an in-game panel with the heading “Find a Battlepass Partner.” It includes a way to search for a player’s username and is assumedly the first step in sending an invite to another play to link accounts.RELATED:MultiVersus Planning ‘Big Overhaul’ of Hitbox/Hurtbox SystemThe second image from AisulMV provides a much clearer picture of what linking accounts inMultiVersuswould mean. It’s a new panel reading “Battle Pass Link Request” and mentions being able to “conquer"MultiVersus' battle passfaster, while sharing rewards. Three bullet points follow, with the first saying that linked players both contribute XP to the same battle pass. The second point says that if one player has a premium battle pass, players will share progress on it. The third says that quest rewards and XP are still rewarded to both players.

What’s implied by the screenshots is that any twoMultiVersusplayers can share a battle pass, effectively doubling their rate ofbattle pass XP gain. Both players' XP rewards from completing quests will go to the same progression bar. As the players tier up, they’ll both gain rewards. Also, while it’s somewhat ambiguous, it’s implied that only one player has to pay for the premium version of the battle pass.

The idea behind the feature would appear to be developer Player First further encouragingtwo-player teamwork inMultiVersus. Two players can not only team up and play together, but they’re rewarded for playing together by progressing through the battle pass more quickly. Of course, earning rewards faster will encourage bothMultiVersusplayers to play more, too, which keeps the game’s player base healthy.

What needs to be made clear is this is not a confirmed feature forMultiVersus. It’s a leak of a feature that Player First may have been considering at one point in time. Player First may have gone in a different direction, likeMultiVersus' current XP and gold boost for playing in a team. Player First may even feel like it’s not necessary anymore, becauseMultiVersusis quite popularand 2v2 has proven successful. This subject may require further comment from Player First so gamers can learn what exactly the plans are forMultiVersus' battle pass.

MultiVersusis available now in Open Beta for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
