My Hero Academia: Vigilantesis finally moving its central arc along with episode #3, and it left plenty to be excited about for episode #4 and beyond. The series continues to strike a good balance between action and heart, and with how strong the first few episodes have been, it would be great for the series to maintain that momentum, going forward.
The first half ofMy Hero Academia: Vigilantesepisode #3 operated in very much the same way as the previous episodes, with Koichi, Pop, and Knuckleduster working together to fight an Instant Villain as they kept looking for the source of Trigger. The second half was much of the same from their perspective, but unbeknownst to them,My Hero Academia: Vigilantesfinally revealed the mastermind behindthe Trigger epidemic in Naruhata. It was an episode with a lot going on from start to finish, and it made for a perfect setup for episode #4 and beyond.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Episode 2 Review: An Excellent Follow-Up To The Premiere
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Episode 2 In Review
My Hero Academia: Vigilanteshad a fantastic premiere, and episode #2 was even better. Not only is the art, animation, and overall direction still great to see and a welcome change of pace from the original anime, but between Koichi’s development and the revelation of Knuckleduster being Quirkless,My Hero Academia: Vigilantesepisode #2 is already pushing the series visually and narratively in ways the franchise has been missing out on for years. TheMy Hero Academiafranchise has never felt so fresh, and at the very least, episode #3 has continued to evoke that feeling.
What Happened In My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Episode 3?
Produced By Bones Film; Directed By Hitomi Ezoe
My Hero Academia: Vigilantesepisode #3, “Bee”, opened with Koichi getting annoyed at Knuckleduster and Pop Step essentially taking over his tiny apartment before Pop went out for another street concert. During the concert, one onlooker, desperate to shake Pop’s hand, used Trigger to transform into a giant eel and attack her. Koichi and Knuckleduster soon arrived and worked with Pop to defeat the Instant Villain; at the end of it all,Koichi, while still annoyed with Knuckleduster and Pop Step intruding on his space, admitted that it wasn’t too bad having them around.
Sometime later, Pop Step learned that Ichimoku and Jube, the middle school students from episode #2, had befriended the eel villain, Teruo, to try and get a lead on the Trigger epidemic. Koichi and Pop went off to meet with Teruo, and as they were waiting for him, they realized Knuckleduster, who would just beat Teruo up again, was also in the area. They never had to figure out how to deal with that, however, asKuin Hachisuka, the mastermind behind the Trigger epidemic, used her Queen Bee Quirk to infect people with Trigger from the shadows and cause chaos.

As the chaos unfolded, Knuckleduster, much to Koichi’s surprise, disappeared from the scene, but fortunately, a team of heroes led by All Might quickly arrived and put down the rampaging citizens with ease. As for Knuckleduster, he found one of the bees flying near Jube and angrily asked if he knew anything about it before killing it. Hachisuka could feel the pain of her bee being killed, with it happening asHachisuka led Teruo, who was separated from Jube during the chaos, away to parts unknown, and the episode ended on a foreboding note for everyone involved, especially Knuckleduster.
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Hints At A Deeper Meaning To Knuckleduster’s Mission
Knuckleduster Might Be Deeper Than Fans Think
Of all the things to take away from episode #3, the biggest is what it implies about Knuckleduster. When Knuckleduster realized that Hachisuka was forcing Trigger onto people as opposed to just giving it to them, he reacted in a way that was far too serious for someone who was just doing their job as a hero, and he stayed that angry for the rest of the episode. As volatile as Knuckleduster is,Knuckleduster’s reaction to Hachisuka inMy Hero Academia: Vigilantesepisode #3 implies a personal connection between the two, one that will surely be explored in later episodes.
As entertaining as Knuckleduster has been as just a violent parallel to All Might andMy Hero Academia’s take on Batman, there’s no denying that he’s been the most one-note of the trio so far, and his tendency to punch first and ask questions later has already been turned into a running gag. That’s why this new development is so exciting, asMy Hero Academia: Vigilantesgiving Knuckleduster a personal stake in the plot provides an opportunity to develop him beyond being a one-note character, and hopefully, it won’t be long before the series capitalizes on that.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Effortlessly Tops Itself Once Again
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Delivers Its Best Episode Yet
My Hero Academia: Vigilantesepisode #3 was another episode of the series that excelled on all fronts. Visually speaking, not only was the art and animation as vibrant as ever, but there were plenty of creative shots throughout to further enhance the quality of it all, including a fun sequence where the fight between the heroes and the Instant Villains was framed like a comic book.My Hero Academia: Vigilantescontinues to be the visual improvement theMy Hero Academiafranchise desperately needed, and hopefully, future episodes will be even better.
More than that was how well episode #3 succeeded narratively. In addition to introducing the main villain, episode #3 also did wonders to flesh out Koichi and Pop’s characters as individuals and as a duo, and with the foreshadowing of Knuckleduster’s arc to go along with that,My Hero Academia: Vigilantesepisode #3 is the best episode of the series so far by finally showing the narrative depth the series can have.My Hero Academia: Vigilantescontinues to be one of thebest anime of spring 2025, and with how great episode #3 was, episode #4 should be no different.
