WhenResident Evilgets adapted into live-action movies or series, they tend to go their own route. The first 2002 movie could barely be considered aResident Evilmovie due to how different it was, whereas the 2021 reboot,Welcome to Raccoon City, at least tried to introduce more things from the games.

Netflix’sResident Evilseries is technically the best adaptation yet because it establishes the games as canon. That is what the show claims anyway but it does change a few things. Overall, there are tons of references to the games inResident Evil. Some are easy to spot while others require some digging.
8The Monsters
Netflix’sResident Evilis filled with monsters from the series. The Doberman that bites Billie is technically the first infected creature players see or hear in the first game. The Lickers make afun return to theResident Evilseriestoo in episode three after being presumably nuked in the Raccoon City bombing.
Also in that episode are some giant spiders that look different than the ones in the games but serve as a nice nod all the same. The University’s crocodile weapon could be considered a reference to the reptile boss in the second game as well. Finally, there is a chainsaw guy like inResident Evil 4in the cult prison that Jade and Richard get thrown into.

7Jade’s Raccoon Helmet
In the original games, there is not much to make Raccoon City look like they care about raccoons at all. Inthe remakes of the second and thirdResident Evilgames, however, there is raccoon propaganda all over the place to make it the town’s official mascot. That type of idol worship returns when the raccoon helmet appears at Jade and Billie’s school.
Jade puts it on to assault a bully who was picking on Billie. Presumably, she got it from the sports lockers and it belongs to the school’s mascot. Unfortunately, that’s where the raccoon nods start and end beside the name of their city.

6Raccoon City’s Destruction
New Raccoon City is indeed a nod to where things started in the first trilogy. That’s not the only name check the now-defunct city gets either. It gets mentioned offhand early in the season but the girls eventually find out that thedestruction of Raccoon Cityin 1998 was no accident.

Through some investigating, they learn that Umbrella destroyed the city because of a zombie uprising. Some photos are shown of the city but there is no video footage of the explosion. This fact alone helps cement the idea that the show takes place mostly within the games’ lore.
5Evelyn Is The Daughter Of James Marcus
James Marcus was one of thefounding fathers of the Umbrella corporation. He is never seen in the games in person because he died in 1988 which was a decade before the first game was set. It is never explicitly stated in the lore that he had kids, but this show decides he did have at least one.
Evelyn is the new CEO of Umbrella and is determined to reclaim the company as its rightful heir. She believes that Umbrella was stolen from her father all those years ago and will do whatever it takes to reclaim it for her and her family.

4The Master Of Unlocking
One of the most infamous lines from the first game has Barry saying thatJill is the master of unlocking. It’s a joke that has been referenced in the series multiple times since and gets another nod in Netflix’sResident Evilwhen Richard Baxter says the line to Jade in episode four.
He takes off his belt which has a knife in it that then uses it to break them both out of jail. As big of a guy as Baxter is, he’s pretty capable in this episode. Sadly, however, things do not end well for this master of unlocking.

3Resident Evil 1 Nods
There are two big nods to the PS1 original game and its remake. Jade and Billie eventually hack into Wesker’s computer wherein they find a note that leads them on a treasure quest. They start solving puzzles around the house as if they are in the games.

Wesker sets up his piano to reveal a clue when the two girls play Moonlight Sonata, which was a puzzle from the first game. When the girls find Wesker’s secret jab after this, they watch a video that shows Wesker and an unknown Umbrella soldier confronting Lisa from the remake timeline. This is not their true father though, which is explained later on.
2Name Drops
There are a lot of name drops in Netflix’sResident Evil. Fans may have wished to seepopularResident Evilcharacters like Ada Wongappear in person instead of being teased in a note in the final scenes of season one. William Birkin is also mentioned when the girls are going through their dad’s emails.
One of the biggest Easter Eggs could be a coincidence, or it could be setting things up as to where the girls came from. In Wesker’s lab, they find passports where their names are changed to Anna and Mila Schneider. Michaela Schneider was the team medic inResident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. Could this Umbrella soldier be their real donor mother?

1The Arklay Mountains
One of the biggest mysteries of season one is whyAlbert Wesker is still alive. It turns out that Jade and Billie’s version of Albert Wesker is a clone. There is a flashback to the Arklay Mountains wherein a secret lab showcases three clones of Wesker. The original Wesker kills one of them before escaping as Evelyn and Umbrella storm the compound.
The other Albert and the other clone, Bert, are kept alive. The Arklay Mountains, of course, is where the Spencer Mansion from the first game is located. It therefore makes sense that the original Wesker would hide his clones there.
