A new Netflix crime show with 99% on Rotten Tomatoes has just become the streamer’s third most-watched show of all time. Over the past few years, Netflix has become the go-to streamer for many viewers, offering up both licensed movies and TV shows and originals. When it comes to TV, the service has found success with a number of original titles, including series likeStranger Things,Wednesday, andSquid Game.
Looking at the crime genre, specifically, Netflix has excelled. TheMonstersseries, for example, which uses an anthology format to explore new crimes and killers with each new season, has been a major hit. Other notable crime shows from the streamer includeUnbelievable(2019),Fool Me Once(2024),Missing You(2025),The Madness(2024), andApple Cider Vinegar(2025). While it’s not unusual for Netflix crime shows to succeed in terms of viewership, it’s far more rare for these shows to also be met with near universal critical acclaim.

What This Means For Adolescence
There’s Already Been Talk Of A Season 2
Adolescence’s endingseemingly wraps up the story the show intends to tell, and this tracks with the show’s original status as a limited series. Its extreme success, however, has reportedly led to talks of a continuation of some sort.Deadlinereported last week that Brad Pitt’s production company,Plan B Entertainment, is in talks with director Philip Barantini about a potential season 2, with hopes that Graham and Thorne would reunite as creators for the “next iteration” of the series.
From the language in the report, it sounds like anAdolescenceseason 2 could potentially take the anthology approach with new characters and a new story while likely retaining the original season’s one-take filming approach. Many questions remain about what new episodes of the show might look like, but the four episodes released thus far are evidently a major success story for Netflix, as well as for Graham, Thorne, and Barantini.
