A leaker has revealed potential release dates for the next twoResident Evilremakes, as well as the next mainline game in the series.Resident Evilhas had a historic run in the past decade or so, reviving itself from near-obscurity post-RE6with the groundbreakingResident Evil 7: Biohazard. From there, it’s been an endlesss procession of remakes, almost all of which have been both critical and commercial successes. But it’s been over two years since the lastResident Evilgame release, and, while it’s almost certainCapcom has something in store, no one seems to know what it is.

However, we may have received the most promising update in a long time, owing to a post byAestheticGameron X (formerly Twitter). The post releases will proceed as follows: first,Resident Evil 9in 2026, thenResident Evil 0in 2027, and finally,Resident Evil - Code: Veronicain 2028. It’s a bold prediction, though, as AestheticGamer points out, one subject to change based on the “whims of game dev.” In a reply, they also express concern over a potential developer change on theRE0team a few months ago, which may have impacted its development cycle. Just how reliable this information is, however, remains to be seen.

How Reliable Are These Leaks?

RE Remakes Could Go Either Way

It’s always hard to definitively point to leaks as true or false, unless you have the same inside information as the leaker. That said, this does have a whiff of authenticity about it.It seems to match up with Capcom’s strategy forResident Evilin recent years, and it doesn’t propose anything that sounds overtly unreasonable.

Besides that,AestheticGamer (formerly known as Dusk Golem) has a decent track record when it comes toREleaks. It’s their main focus as a leaker, and they were previously able to announce several aspects ofResident Evil Villagebefore they were officially revealed by Capcom.

It’s also worth noting thatthis isn’t the only piece of information AestheticGamerhas shared aboutRE9, either. They compiled a list of previous leaks in a second post onXthis morning, where they discussed several details of its protagonist, setting, and role within the series.

This also coincides with recent rumors thata new (or remade)Resident Evilgame could make a big showing at the upcoming Summer Game Fest. Capcom is a knownpartner of this year’s SGF, so it’ll clearly be showing something. Why not use one of the biggest stages of the year to make a big announcement?

Release Windows For New Resident Evil Games Make Sense

The Most Reasonable Leak Ever

To their credit, though, the most believable thing about these leaks ishow realistic they sound. This isn’t “RE9is coming out tomorrow, andCode: Veronicawill be shadowdropped next week” - it’s one new game annually, the first of which doesn’t even come out until next year. That’s pretty consistent with Capcom’s timing of recentREreleases, too. SinceRE7, it’s typically put out a game every year; a mainline title in 2017 and then again in 2021, with a handful of remakes in between, and only a couple of off years.

I think it makes perfect sense for Capcom to announce a brand-new game first, since it’s been four years since the last one, and then to follow with a couple of remakes to fill the gap while it develops the next one. And since Capcom isavoiding anRE5remakelike the T-Virus,Code: VeronicaandRE0just make sense. It’s hard to know exactly what’s in store forResident Evilnext, but AestheticGamer’s alleged leaks paint a realistic picture.
