Big Brotherhas showmances year after year, which in an impressive feat have more successful marriages thanThe Bachelor, butwith showmances comes the one guy each season who decides single-handedly he’s in a relationship before consulting the other halfof the showmance. This season, that houseguest is moving quickly, picking anotherBig Brother27houseguest to woo in the first days of the season.

To be clear:this isn’t an issue of consent as much as it is a misunderstandingin theBig Brotherhouse. Typically, both houseguests have some sort of interest in each other, but the man involved believes the relationship is more evolved than it is and talks about it to others. In theBBgame of telephone, information becomes misconstrued quickly.

Big Brother Poster

TheBig Brothershowmance has evolvedover the years. In the early days of the series,Big Brotherveterans like Mike “Boogie” Malin and Dr. Will Kirby were flirting with women in the house to pass the time and wound up breaking up with them weeks (or months) after season’s end.AsBig Brothergained more traction, relationships bloomed.

Big Brother11’s Jeff Schroeder & Jordan Lloydmet and fell in love during their season, just likeBig Brother12’s Brendon Villegas & Rachel Reilly. Couples have left the show together happily, buta pattern emerging in recent seasonshas been that, after a mild and minimal amount of flirtation, one male houseguest decides he’s in a showmance, but the other half doesn’t know that.

From Matt Klotz ofBig Brother25 becoming somewhat obsessed with Reilly Smedley throughout his time in the house without her interest,toBig Brother26’s Matt Hardemanacting like the week he spent in the house with runner-up Makensy Jo Manbeck meant they were dating, the men ofBBhave started a concerning trend, and this season’s no different.

Big Brother 27’s Zach Cornell Is Interested In Lauren Domingue

She Doesn’t Feel Comfortable With The Showmance Allegations

While Zach Cornell didn’t appear to come intoBig Brotherwith hopes of getting into a showmance, he was quickly enamored with fellow houseguest Lauren Domingue. Lauren, a Bridal Consultant who shared she wouldn’t be opposed to getting into a showmance, was clearly somewhat interested in Zach, butdidn’t seem to have the same drive to get into a full-blown relationship on screen.

As the pairhave navigated theBig Brotherhousein its first week, Lauren and Zach have gotten closer, but it’s been Zach steering the ship. After talking with nearly everyone in the house about what he wants and how hopeful he is for a showmance with Lauren, its gotten back to her in different ways. Unfortunately,Zach hadn’t cleared the showmance with Lauren, first.

After hearing about her apparent showmance from more than one person, Laurenexpressed discomfort to other houseguestsabout people bringing up her personal life consistently. Rather than keeping a level head and talking about things with Lauren first,Zach made an executive decision about their future and ultimately found himself between a rock and hard place. His words have damaged both his and Lauren’s games.

Big Brother Super Fan Knows Showmances Can Be Dangerous

She’s Trying To Avoid The Stereotype

As aBig Brothersuperfan, Lauren’s well aware that showmances can be the kiss of death for a houseguest’s game. Typically, both sides of a showmance wind up getting put up on the block together and their games can’t recover.Being part of a showmance so early in the season is also detrimental, as it’s easier for the house to turn against both sides.

AsBB27 continues, Zach’s decision to let everyone in on his potential showmance with Lauren may not be something that hurts him, butthe fact that it’s made Lauren uncomfortable in the first place is already too much. The potential for the pair to move through the season together has likely been squashed, but someone should letBig Brother’sZach know, soon.

Big Brotherairs Wednesdays, Thursdays, & Sundays at 8 p.m. EDT on CBS.
