Jurassic World Rebirthhas already teased the inclusion of an incredibly exciting scene, and this sequence was surprisingly cut fromJurassic Park. The originalJurassic Parkis known for being a big-budget blockbuster, with it containing jaw-dropping visual effects that blew the minds of many audiences. However, one scene still managed to be too complex for the originalJurassic Park, with it not being realized untilthe release ofJurassic World Rebirthdecades later.
Jurassic World Rebirthis set to kick off a new era of theJurassic Parkfranchise, with it being the first film since the end of the reboot trilogy withJurassic World Dominion. The upcoming film will follow a group of trained specialists who are sent on a mission to a secluded island that acted as the testing ground for the original Jurassic Park. There, the team must extract DNA from several species of dinosaur. Continuing a franchise trend, things go wrong, with the team having to face off against new types of dinosaurs that have seemingly evolved in the decades since the original film.

Jurassic World Rebirth Is Using The T. Rex River Attack Scene Jurassic Park Should’ve Had
It Comes From The Original Novel
As it turns out,Jurassic World Rebirthis finally using theT. Rex river attack scene that the originalJurassic Parkshould have had. The river chase sequence comes straight from Michael Crichton’s originalJurassic Parknovel, with it being centered around a river raft attraction at the park. In the movie, it would have seen Alan Grant and the two kids board a raft. While on board, a T. Rex would appear, with it chasing them through a river. The T. Rex would have caused a stampede, furthering the danger. To make things worse, the raft would eventually reach a waterfall.
Some parts of the river scene were filmed for the originalJurassic Park, although the whole sequence ended up being cut. Luckily, it is finally being brought back to life inJurassic World Rebirth. The trailers for the upcoming film feature a sequence that is reminiscent of the original chase. Whileit will obviously be slightly different due toJurassic World Rebirthfocusing on new characters in a new location, it is nice to see the scene finally make its return in some form.
Why Jurassic Park Didn’t Include The T. Rex River Boat Attack Scene
Why The Screenwriter Wasn’t A Fan Of It
Unfortunately, the river boat attackscene had to be cut from the originalJurassic Parkfor several reasons. Interestingly, screenwriter David Koepp never wanted the sequence in the film for story reasons. In the bookThe Making of Jurassic Park: An Adventure 65 million Years in the Making, Koepp said:
“I never wanted the raft sequence. It seemed to me at certain points in the book that we were being taken on an obligatory tour past every dinosaur the park had to offer. My feeling was that once the park broke down there should be total chaos. I thought the raft trip was rather redundant. So for me, it was an easy cut to make, especially because it would have been so monstrously expensive.”
The expenses seem to be the reason that the scene finally ended up being cut. The complex scene would have requiredfurther use of the T. Rex in an even more complicated and wet environment.Jurassic Parkwas already a big-budget movie, and the massive cost of this scene combined with its repetitive nature means that it was an obvious choice to cut.
The T-Rex River Attack Scene Looks Like One Of Jurassic World Rebirth’s Best Sequences
& It Fixes The Scene’s Original Problem
While it is different from the originalJurassic Parkscene, the river boat chase already looks like one ofJurassic World Rebirth’s best sequences. The T. Rex flipping over the river boat and hunting its inhabitants is absolutely terrifying, adding to the horror element that makes the franchise so great. On top of that, the uncontrollable raft will make for a thrilling sequence, with the dinosaurs only making things worse.
AlthoughJurassic World Rebirthisn’t out yet, the film’s premise means that it probably fixed the issue that David Koepp had with the original scene. UnlikeJurassic Park, which was about the characters escaping the dinosaurs,Jurassic World Rebirthis about the characterstrying to get close to them to get their DNA. Thus, it makes sense for them to see most of the island’s dinosaurs. On top of that, the river boats probably aren’t a ride since this is a research island. Thus,Jurassic World Rebirthmost likely has a better story justification for the characters getting on the raft.
