One Piecedelivered another fantastic episode with episode #1135, and as always, it left plenty to be excited about for episode #1136 and beyond. The anime’s take on Kuma’s backstory is almost at an end, and fortunately, all signs point to it ending on as high a note as possible.

Following the events ofOne Pieceepisode #1134, Kuma began his new life as a Warlord, counting the days until Vegapunk would turn him into an unfeeling cyborg with no free will. As that happened, Bonney grew increasingly restless as communication with Kuma suddenly stopped, even after she was fully cured of her Sapphire Scales, so Bonney decided to take advantage of her newfound freedom to go on an adventure of her own. The episode perfectly set the stage for the finale ofKuma’s flashback arc, and the finale itself is poised to be even better.

One Piece Episode 1134 Review: A Perfect Transition Into An Emotional Climax

One Piece Episode 1134 In Review

One Pieceepisode #1134 was a transitional episode more than anything, but it was nonetheless great to watch. The story has gotten to the point where everyone should know what to expect based on previous arcs, but even so,Kuma’s tragic backstoryremains as compelling as ever for how dedicated he is to saving Bonney and doing good.

The biggest hallmark of episode #1134’s success, however, came from its extra content. While the manga only had a quick montage of Kuma and Bonney’s time on Egghead, the anime expanded it into multiple scenes of them bonding with Vegapunk, Sentomaru, and Kizaru, and with the great artwork and animation at play,One Pieceepisode #1134 did a far better job of selling the biggest friendships ofthe Egghead arcthan the manga. It was one of the best episodes ofOne Piecesomeone could ask for, and sure enough, episode #1135 was even better.

What Happened In One Piece Episode 1135?

Produced By Toei Animation; Directed By Sho Matsui

InOne Pieceepisode #1135, “To the Sea Where My Father Is! The Future Bonney Chooses”, Kuma remembered a conversation with Dragon where he learned that Dragon had a son in the Goa Kingdom, so after becoming a Warlord, he decided to go there and check him out. Sure enough, Kuma ran into a 16-year-old Luffy training for when he was ready to begin his voyage, but before Kuma could talk to him, he was called away to deal with some pirates.

From there, Kuma devoted himself heavily to his duties as a Warlord and allowing Vegapunk to slowly rob him of his free will, all while silently continuing his duties as a Revolutionary, as well. The only peace Kuma found was in the dozens of letters he would write to Bonney about his journey, but unbeknownst to him, Alpha, the Cipher Pol agent put in charge of Bonney, was secretly destroying the letters to keep Bonney under her thumb.

Much time passed, and half a year after Bonney’s ninth birthday, she was fully cured of her Sapphire Scales. Alpha still wouldn’t let Bonney go outside, however, and while she said it was because Bonney wasn’t allowed to leave until she turned 10, the queen dowager Conney revealed that Alpha, in a drunken stupor, had said that she would never let Bonney leave. Conney didn’t know why, but regardless, it was clear that Bonney needed to force her way out to be free and see Kuma again.

With help from everyone and her Age-Age Fruit powers, Bonney escaped the church and boarded a ship with Kuma’s friends to begin her journey. Alpha was quick to discover the deception, and she chased after Bonney with the intent to kill her, butBonney, remembering Kuma’s stories about Nika, used her Age-Age Fruit to temporarily gain Nika’s rubber-like body and take her out in one blow, thus beginning her pirate journey.

One Piece Continues To Have A Perfect Handling Of Its Most Emotional Arc Yet

What Made One Piece Episode 1135 So Good

Even with Kuma’s arc coming to a close, theOne Pieceanimeis still more than succeeding in every regard. Visually speaking, while episode #1135 didn’t have any of the top-tier visualsOne Pieceis known for, it still looked gorgeous from start to finish, especially during Bonney’s big scene at the end of the episode, and with how important this arc has been, that’s exactly what needs to be seen.

Above all else, what made episode #1135 so great was everything that it did with Bonney. Between how well it highlighted her distress from Kuma’s absence to the catharsis of her finally taking her life into her own hands,One Pieceepisode #1135 did a perfect job of capping off Bonney’s emotional journey, at least as far as the flashback is concerned. There was no better way forOne Pieceepisode #1135 to go, and hopefully, episode #1136 will be a perfect follow-up.
