Without a doubt, Paddy Considine’s impressive performance as Kevin Harrigan inMobLandis a huge highlight of the British crime thriller on Paramount+. The son of Irish mobster Conrad Harrigan, Kevin has a lot to contend with: his rebellious son, Eddie, and themystery surrounding Maeve’s real relationship with him; the past trauma he endured at the hands of a former prison guard, Rusby; and the enduring mob war between the Harrigans and the Stevensons.

Considine expertly portrays the inner conflict within the character of Kevin — both as a father looking to protect his son, and as a man eager for vengeance. His sense of justice was challenged whenKevin changed his mind and killed Rusbyin episode 9, bringing even more emotional layers to the character. While watching him inMobLand,I couldn’t help but be reminded of yet another great role Considine played in a Stephen King adaptation for TV.

Considine Played Claude Bolton

Before he desperately tried to save his son as Kevin Harrigan inMobland, Paddy Considine played Claude Bolton in the HBO mini-series,The Outsider.Adapted from a Stephen King horror novel,The Outsideris about the mystery of the gruesome murder of a young boyin Cherokee City, Georgia, and a dark parasitic entity that terrorizes the town’s inhabitants.

InThe Outsider,Detective Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn) investigates the death of Frank Peterson, and suspects the boy’s baseball coach as the culprit. However, with the help of a private detective, Holly Gibney (Cynthia Erivo), Ralph discovers that the true murderer is of the more supernatural persuasion. As the series reaches its climax,a shapeshifter that looks like Claude attacks another young boy. Considine’s dual role as Claude and briefly as the horrifying creature is a testament to the actor’s talent. His chilling performance in episode 8, “Foxhead,” was especially memorable.

Although there were scripts reportedly written for season 2,HBO opted not to continue the series. The curious thing is that season 1 ofThe Outsiderwas a complete adaptation of the Stephen King book, so any new storyline for season 2 would have been completely original. According to King in an interview withEntertainment Weekly,The Outsiderseason 2 would have had“a real spooky paranormal element.”

Paddy Considine Is Joined By A Stellar Cast In The Outsider

Cynthia Erivo, Jason Bateman, And Ben Mendelsohn Round Out The Cast

Considine isn’t the only cast member ofThe Outsiderwho gave a praise-worthy performance. The series features a phenomenal list of talent, including Mendelsohn and Erivo. The series also features Jason Bateman as Terry Maitland, Mare Winningham as Ralph’s wife, Jeannie Anderson, and Bill Camp as private inspector Howard Salomon.

Bateman not only had a role inThe Outsider,he was also an executive producer, and he directed the first two episodes of the series. The award-winning director and star ofOzark,(which, likeThe Outsider, was headed by MRC studios) worked on both shows at the same time while shooting in Atlanta, Georgia. As for Erivo, she opened up about her character to the Television Critics Association, giving attention to the fact that Holly is neuro-diverse:

“I wanted her to connect as much as she could. With every connection, she is learning to communicate and allows people to figure out who she is and what she is experiencing" (viaDeadline).

WhileThe Outsidermakes some significant changes from King’s novel, the series is an engaging watch with a celebrated cast. Paddy Considine’s performance and the other talented actors leave a lasting impression with this haunting mystery horror series, much like he does inMobLand.
