To many fans' shock, the wildly successful songbird, Sabrina Carpenter, didn’t get nominated for one of the top categories at theMTV Video Music Awards. The 2025VMAs will be held on September 17th, live from New York’s UBS Arena, making it the second year the award show will be held at the venue.
TheVMAs have also switched to CBS, likely as an attempt to gain more viewers. Keen to fulfill its duty, the network is promising a night of music and iconic moments to rival any other since its premiere in 1984. There is a long list of nominees for each category, but in a surprising twist, one top artist didn’t make the cut for artist of the year.

Sabrina Carpenter Wasn’t Nominated For Artist Of The Year
Despite being one of the biggest artists in pop (first fueling fans on a global scale with thesuccess of “Espresso”), Sabrina Carpenter wasn’t nominated for Artist Of The Year at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards.MTV announced the nominees for one of the biggest awardsof the night, which are Bad Bunny, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, Morgan Wallen, and Taylor Swift.
Carpenter was nominated forArtist Of The Year in 2024 but lost to Swift, who had releasedThe Tortured Poets Departmentin April. While Carpenter had a massive year in 2024 with “Espresso,” “Please Please Please,” and her albumShort n' Sweet, she had a great year in 2025 as well.

Thesinger performed at the Grammysand took home her first two awards in her decade-long career. To celebrate, she released theShort n' Sweetdeluxe edition, including five tracks that didn’t make the cut for the initial album. She also continued herShort n' Sweettour and took her show on a festival run.
In June, she shocked fans withher new single “Manchild"andannounced her new albumMan’s Best Friendwould be out at the end of August. Carpenter has been “working late” and being a “busy woman” all year long, so it seems odd that she was snubbed for Artist Of The Year.
Sabrina Can Still Win Big At The VMAs
Luckily forthe “Busy Woman” singer, Carpenter likely won’t go home empty-handed. The pop star is stillnominated for eight other awards, including the highly coveted Video Of The Year. Carpenter made waves with her creative and visually stunning “Manchild” music video, and even though she has some tough competition, she still has a chance at winning.
Carpenter is also up for Best Album for Short n' Sweet. Last year, the album had just been released andmissed the cutoff for VMA nominations. However, the star still put on a dazzling performance of three of the album’s tracks.
Short n' Sweetbecame a massive success, and there’s a good chance it could take home the Best Album VMA this year. WithMan’s Best Friendcoming August 29th,Sabrina Carpenterhas a lot in store, giving her the perfect opportunity to earn her Artist of the Year nomination at next year’s Video Music Awards.
