With a heavy heart, Justin Melnick has taken to social media to share a devastating loss of aSEAL Teamcast member. He wanted to make sure the fans of the series had a chance to say goodbye.
Dita the Hair Missile passed away unexpectedly at the age of 11.SEAL Team’s Justin Melnick shared in an Instagram postthat he had to make a difficult decision after she unexpectedly developed bloat, or gastric dilation-volvulus. Knowing how important Dita was to fans and how important fans were to Dita,he wanted to share her final moments with all.

Dita the Hair Missile played Cerberus throughout all seven seasons of SEAL Team, becoming a beloved team member for both the cast and the fans. InSEAL Teamseason 4, we worried that Cerberus would be killed off whenMelnick’s Brock hinted that Cerberus was getting close to needing to be retired. Fortunately, Cerberus was retired, bringing Pepper in.

WhileSEAL Teamcame to an end with its seventh season, the memory of Dita the Hair Missile will live on. There were talks at one stage of a movie, but in the end, a decision was made to cancel the movie. If there is a movie or evenSEAL Teamseason 8in the future,Dita’s passing would need to be mentioned via Cerberus’ passing, allowing everyone to mourn fully.
Melnick taking to Instagram toshare Dita’s final moments was a compassionate decision. It wasn’t an easy decision to make, and you can hear the emotion in his voice via the Instagram video. This was a loss he knew he would need to face eventually, but he wasn’t quite ready for it now.

In the caption, Melnick explained that he could have opted for surgery, butdue to Dita the Hair Missile’s age, that was too much of a risk. Many took to the comments to share their love for Melnick and Dita.

This is sad news for us as well as for the cast. Dita the Hair Missile was 11, which is a good age for a German Shepherd, but it doesn’t make the loss any easier. She will be missed, especially asMelnick would regularly post videos on social media of him continuing his training with herand Pepper.
It’s always hard to say goodbye to a cast member of a series, but it’s much harder saying goodbye to an animal. At the same time, it’s a beautiful thing that social media has given us a chance to say goodbye to this beloved, fan-favorite member ofSEAL Team.
