In light of the surprise release ofThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remasteredyesterday, the future of the ambitious modSkyblivionwas uncertain. The mod aims to recreate the entirety ofOblivionwithinThe Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and has taken over 13 years of development by an evolving roster of volunteers. The official remake ofOblivioncould potentially have put a wrench in the project, if Bethesda had decided that it didn’t want the team working on the mod any more.

However, it seems there was no cause for concern, as Bethesda took the opposite route and granted the devs a token of their continued support instead. The official X account for the project,TESRSkyblivion, reports thattheElder Scrollsdeveloper has sent the entireSkybliviondev team keys for free copiesof the newly released game (spotted byVideo Games Chronicle).

Skyblivion Won’t Be Shut Down

The Project Is Almost Ready To Release

When theSkyblivionmod began its development, it was meant to be a way tobring the classic 2005 title into the more powerful engine of the 2011 game. The idea was to make the older game more accessible to modern players through the massively popularSkyrimgame that drew in new fans when it launched.

After many years in development, the passion project was nearing completion, with apotential 2025 release imminent. A gameplay update and demo was shared earlier this year on theRebelzizeYouTube channel, showing off the mod’s great progress and how close it is to completion.

Luckily, it looks likeBethesda has no plans to ask the modders to stop working onSkyblivion, instead showing its support for the volunteer dev team. The devs, in turn, share their appreciation to Bethesda on the X post, writing that, “As massive fans, we’re beyond grateful for the generous gift of Oblivion Remastered game keys for our entire modding team! This means so much to us. Thank you for everything.”

Bethesda Continues To Be Friendly To The Mod Community

Though Oblivion Remastered Doesn’t Support Mods (Yet)

While some large development studios don’t like letting their fans add fan-made content to their games, Bethesda breaks the mold. The company has historically been very supportive of the modding communityfor its games, whichcontinues to create modsfor Bethesda titles for years following their release.

Unfortunately, theOblivionremaster doesn’t officially support modsat launch, making some fans concerned that Bethesda’s friendly relationship with modders was coming to an end. However, the company often adds mod support in later updates to new releases, so it’s very likely that this will be the case with the latest title. Supporting theSkyblivionteam with game keys is a sign that the company’s stance on modding hasn’t changed, and good news for anyone who was hoping to modThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered.
