While the wait forSouth Parkseason 27 continues, a massive update just changed the show’s streaming future forever. Though it was initially intended to be released on July 7,South Parkseason 27was delayed by two weeks, after negotiations between the show’s creators and Paramount stalled at the end of June.

South Parkpreviously had a deal with Paramount, but the company is now attempting to merge with Skydance in an $8 billion deal. As the show was poised to triple its income through its new negotiations, perThe Hollywood Reporter, Skydance reportedly elected to direct Paramount to refuse the agreement with creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

In a post on his personal X account,Puck’sMatthew Belloniexplained that Parker and Stone have achieved"MAJOR progress in settlement talks.“While final terms have not been set, Belloni believes that it will be “an extension of the existing overall deal” with Paramount and Skydance without forcing the parties to begin a lengthy legal battle.

What This Means For South Park’s Future

The Show Could Be Back Soon

Despite the tumultuous deal,South Park’s future was bright even before thisannouncement. The show is still available on HBO Max, even as the settlement fight continues, and this deal with Paramount could be worth as much as $3 billion. While the previous arrangement with Paramount expired on June 30, another should be on the horizon.

As it should premiere on July 23, the studio is under pressure to get this deal done soon.

Parker and Stone are also hard at work on the upcoming episodes, astheSouth Parkseason 27 trailerhas already been released. It features falling planes, potential war with Canada, and Randy Marsh promising to mess with the United States government. The season should be both dramatic and comedic, which is perfect for the show’s modern era.

Unfortunately, there isno way to predict how the settlement deal will end. Any movement is certainly progress in the right direction, but Parker and Stone will likely be reluctant to release the next season until the ink is dry. As it should premiere on July 23, the studio is under pressure to get this deal done soon.

Our Take On South Park’s Settlement Progress

It Is Unfortunate That It Came To This

It is extremely unfortunate that viewers were forced to wait even longer to see the new episodes, aftera lengthy two-year pause between seasons. While there were specials scattered throughout 2023 and 2024, this was the first opportunity to see new content since June 28, 2025, and audiences were delayed by a legal fight.

The coming settlement should be a relief to all parties, but especially the viewers. The ongoing battle between Paramount and theSouth Parkteam has gone on long enough. Fortunately, it could provide some additional material for the upcoming season. As long as the settlement does not bar comments,South Parkseason 27 will likely poke fun at the delay.
