Sony is developing another majorSpider-Manmovie. While theMarvel Cinematic Universeis getting ready forTom Holland’sSpider-Man: Brand New Day, Sony is also working on the highly anticipated conclusion to theSpider-Versetrilogy withSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is slated to release on July 23, 2025.
While Sony is wrapping up Miles Morales' animated saga, one of the major upsides of theSpider-Versemovies is the many variants of Spider-Man that they explore throughout. WhiletheSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Versemovieis currently still in production, a familiar Spider-variant may soon be headlining his own film.

According toDeadline,aSpider-Punkanimated movie is in development, with Daniel Kaluuya and Ajon Singh writing the script for theSpider-Versespinoff film. Kaluuya is expected to reprise his role of Hobie Brown in theSpider-Punkfilm; the actor will also be back to voice him inBeyond the Spider-Verse.
At the time of writing, there is no director attached to theSpider-Punkmovie, as there is also no confirmed release date for the project or any known story details beyond Hobie Brown being the protagonist. TheSpider-Punkmovie is, according to Deadline, in"early development."

What The Spider-Punk Movie Means For The Spider-Verse
While time will tell what the Spider-Punk spinoff will focus on for the titular hero,it wouldn’t be shocking ifSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Versesomehow plants the seeds for Kaluuya’s film. With the Spider-Verse concept at their disposal, the writers can wrap up Shameik Moore’s Miles' arc before having theSpider-Punkmovie focus on Hobie’s universe.
Given how Spider-Punk was one of the breakoutcharacters fromSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, it’s also not surprising that Sony is looking at having Hobie lead his own movie.Spider-Punkisn’t the onlySpider-Verse-related film Sony has in the works,as aSpider-Womananimated movie has also been in development for a few years.

Our Take On The Spider-Punk Movie
With the great potential that exists for the Spider-Punk character, having him get his own movie is another terrific way to keep theSpider-Versefranchise goingwhen Miles' time is finished. It also leaves the door open for otherSpider-Versemovie characters to come back alongside new variants from the source material.
The bigger question now, however, is whetherSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Versewill actually lay any groundwork for theSpider-Punkfilm in any capacity. Given that theSpider-Punkmovie is only in early development, it might be a while until more updates are shared about Kaluuya’s animated installment.
