Star Warshas announced a brand-new story set one year beforeAndor, making it a true prequel to one ofStar Wars’best TV shows. AlthoughAndorofficially came to a close with the show’s second and final season this year, there’s still plenty of interest in these characters, and now we seem to be getting new stories about them.
Perkoteseeker, at San Diego Comic-Con,Star Warsannounced that the canon bookStar Wars:Reign of the Empire: Edge of the Abysswill be released in late 2026 and is set one year beforeAndor. Although we already knew Mon Mothma, Bail Organa, and Saw Gerrera would be featured, the panel teased appearances by otherAndorcharacters as well.

Edge of the Abyssis the second of a trilogy ofStar Warsbooks; the first of the trio,Star Wars: Reign of the Empire: The Mask of Fear, written by Alex Freed, was released in February of this year.

Which Andor Characters Will Return In Edge Of The Abyss?
Some Characters Are Already Confirmed, But There Will Seemingly Be Others
This trilogy of books was already heavily linked toAndorbecause of the characters it most prominently featured. For example, the prequel toEdge of the Abyss,The Mask of Fear, centered on Mon Mothma and Bail Organa. It also incorporated Saw Gerrera, although it was expected that he would become more important later in the trilogy.
As mentioned, it was already known that these three characters would continue to be important in the subsequent two books. However,The Mask of Fearwas quite a bit earlier intheStar Warstimeline, taking place fairly soon after the events ofStar Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith.
This has interesting (and thrilling) implications for the other possibleAndorcharacters who could appear in the book. Of course, one character that will be front of mind for many is Cassian Andor himself, but it remains unclear whether he will have any role inEdge of the Abyss.
Whether Cassian is in the book or not, there are many otherAndorcharacters who would be equally exciting to have return. Among those characters are Luthen Rael, Kleya Marki, and Bix Caleen, to name just a few. At present, it is unknown who or how many characters will return, but the possibilities are intriguing to say the least.

There Is So Much To Explore Because Of This Show
Not only inEdge of the Abyss, but also inStar Warsmore broadly,Andorhas opened up a host of incredible story opportunities, whether that’s on-screen, in books, or in any number of mediums. As one example, theAndorendingshockingly revealed thatCassian and Bix had a baby, which is certainly a story I would like to see.
While that remains to be seen, and it may be years before we learn if some characters will ever return, this thrillingStar Warsannouncement has confirmed thatAndoris indeed getting a prequel story inEdge of the Abyss, and it will include some very familiar faces.
