In the establishedStar Warscanon, Vader’s castle on Mustafar is an incredibly dark location in the galaxy, fueled by immense dark side energies. However, Marvel’s newest series is hinting at power that has yet to be revealed within the imposing fortress.

Having shared with the First Order’s Supreme Leader the history of his grandfather,Vaneé boldly points out Kylo’s self-hatred inLegacy of Vader #5and its parallel to Vader’s, just before promising Ren a secret power on Mustafar:
According to Vaneé, a secret vault lies inside Darth Vader’s castle on Mustafar, holding a power that will be destroyed along with the Supreme Leader himself if he doesn’t keep Vaneé around to find the vault and harness its power.While this could simply be a ruse on Vaneé’s part to save his own skin a little while longer, a new power hidden inside Vader’s fortress wouldn’t be all that surprising.
Darth Vader’s Castle Is Saturated With Dark Side Power
It Was Literally Designed To Be A Force Conduit
First and foremost, it’s important to note that Darth Vader’s castle is located right by the lava banks where Obi-Wan Kenobi defeated his former apprentice inRevenge of the Sith. It’s the site where Darth Vader received his critical burns and wounds that made life-support armor necessary, his every waking hour one of pain and agony. The castle was also built right above a “locus of dark side energies”.
When offered a world of his own by Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader chose Mustafar with dark intentions, ensuring the memory of his greatest defeat would continue to fuel his rage and power in the dark side for years. Likewise, the fortress itself was designed by the spirit of theSith architect (and heretic) Darth Momin, specifically built as a conduit to amplify Vader’s power via the dark side energies below.
Once his castle was built, Vader’s amplified power allowed him to tear a rift in the Force itself. In doing so, Vader attempts to bring his wife back from the netherworld. Furthermore, Darth Vader tried again to resurrect Padmé using a device known as the Aeon Engine and a sacred artifact known as The Bright Star.
While both the engine and the crystal were thought to have been destroyed,they prove that Darth Vader’s castle could have any number of other hidden artifacts or power sources locked away.Keeping that in mind, Vaneé may be telling Kylo Ren the truth about this supposed “secret vault”, one that the former caretaker has been watching over for decades following Vader’s death.
What Secret Power Is Kylo Ren Being Promised?
Will Vaneé Betray The Supreme Leader?
ThroughoutLegacy of Vader, Vaneé has been trying to impress upon Kylo Ren the true power that was once held by Darth Vader and where it came from. The pain of his upbringing, the attachments he held, and how his power was ultimately fueled by his past as Anakin Skywalker. However, it’s all been in contrast to Kylo Ren’s obsession with letting go and even killing the past if necessary.
Now, this latest issue has seen Vaneé getting bolder in his efforts to make the Supreme Leader see his flawed thinking. As a true believer and servant of Darth Vader, Vaneé seems committed to doing whatever he can to makeKylo Ren a worthy successor to Darth Vader’s legacy, perhaps even at the cost of his own death.Keeping that in mind, I do think that Vaneé is telling the truth about this secret power within Darth Vader’s castle.
