Star Wars’upcoming miniseries,LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy - Pieces of the Past, will finally bringGrogu’sunofficial name frequently used by fans, “Baby Yoda,” to theStar Warsscreen. One of severalreveals at Star Wars Celebration 2025was the announcement ofPieces of the Past, a sequel to the 2024 miniseriesLEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy.
Although this show is not part ofthe canonStar Warstimeline, it is still plenty of fun. In fact, the show not being canon has opened up a host of thrilling opportunities, from Darth Jar Jar to beach Luke Skywalker and more. Now,on September 19th,Pieces of the Pastwill be released and make “Baby Yoda” official.

Even Star Wars Is Now Admitting Grogu Is Really “Baby Yoda”
In thePieces of the Pasttrailer, one character declares,“We found a baby Yoda,“only for Lando Calrissian to appear, donning Din Djarin’s iconic Mandalorian armor, and say,“The baby’s name is Grogu, baby.“This is hilarious for several reasons. For one, this very conversation is one that has been happening since Grogu’s true name was revealed.
Of course, this is also funny because it’s such a classic Lando Calrissian thing to say. Humor aside, this is the first timeStar Warshas validated the name “Baby Yoda” on-screen. Outside this example, it’s long seemed likeStar Warsdoesn’t want the name to be used (some Pedro Pascal comments in particular have suggested this).

This therefore marks a fairly momentous occasion inStar Wars, which is somethingRebuild the Galaxyhas become known for. After all, the show’s first season gave fans ofthe Darth Jar Jar theoryexactly what they were looking for, and thus seems to be playing to the fans in hilarious ways.
Star Wars' Landolorian & Grogu Look Fantastic
Although we’ve only gotten to see one trailer for the show so far, these clips suggestPieces of the Pastwill be plenty of fun. Baby Yoda and Lando Calrissian as the Mandalorian are just two examples of the fascinating characters and concepts revealed in the trailer, although they are especially exciting ones.
Both Grogu and Lando are two ofStar Wars’most beloved characters, and getting to see them not only as alternate versions of themselves but also as alternate versions who interact with one another will no doubt be brilliant. Lando is also arguably one of the characters who has long deserved more screen time.
Just as the first iteration of the show did, it feels safe to say thatLEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy - Pieces of the Pastwill be having plenty of fun playing with the canon characters and stories ofStar Warsin brand-new ways, and the first-ever official use of “Baby Yoda” as Grogu’s name on-screen is the perfect confirmation.
LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy - Pieces of the Pastwill be released on July 11, 2025, on Disney+.
