The gladiator showSpartacusaired on Starz over a decade ago, and it’s still dominating streaming charts months before its sequel show. The original series is a fictionalized tkae on the life of real-life gladiator Spartacus. It ran for three seasons between 2010 and 2013, but the long-awaited sequel seriesSpartacus: House of Ashuris set to premiere this fall.
According to data fromFlixPatrol, the #1 TV series streaming on Starz right now isSpartacus, followed by titlessuch asThree Women,Sweetpea, andOutlander, which are newer or have had more recent seasons. This is compelling data, especially given that the upcoming sequel series still doesn’t have a confirmed release date.

What Spartacus’s Streaming Success Means
2025 Will Be A Big Year For Starz In The Streaming Wars
With so many streaming services producing original television, it’s not surprising that cable channels like Starz have fallen behind. Many of the best Starz TV series came during the 2010s, such asAsh vs Evil DeadandBlack Sails, and although the network was never quite at the HBO level, it was still a reliable source for entertaining television.
Theongoing appreciation forSpartacus, as evidenced by its current streaming data, is the reason why this show merited a sequel in the first place, especially after such a long time. These numbers also indicate thatHouse of Ashurcould end up being a bigger hit than anyone is expecting, especially given how limited the marketing has been.

Prior toHouse of Ashur’srelease,Starz also has a sequel TV series releasing forOutlander, which means two of the platform’s most widely recognized shows will essentially have new beginnings; a joy for long-term fans of the titles and a potential opening for new viewers who aren’t willing to catch up on the older titles.
It’s doubtful that either of these releases will be breaking records or pulling Netflix numbers, but they’ll be excellent contributions for Starz, which hasn’t had many major releases in recent years.

Our Take On Spartacus’s Streaming Success
I’ll Always Support A Roman History Show
As someone who’s watched practically every notable Roman history adaptation, and quite a few of the unknown, niche ones, I’m happy to seeSpartacussucceed. While I don’t think it has the same prestigeas HBO’sRome, which has its own flaws,Spartacusis one of the most entertaining series in this setting.
I understand thatHouse of Ashuris just a miniseries, but it would be wonderful to see it have some success, potentially leading to others like it. Aside from the German seriesBarbarians, whichpremiered on Netflix, there aren’t many recent Ancient Rome TV shows I’d recommend. I’m rooting forSpartacus.
