Stephen King’sThe Running Manis getting a slight release delay. The upcoming dystopian action thriller film, which is based on the 1982 novel by King, will be co-written, produced, and directed by Edgar Wright, andwill star Glen Powell as a “Runner” being hunted down in a survival game show, which could earn him $1 billion.

The remake of the original 1987 film stars Powell in the lead role as Ben Richards, with Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, and Lee Pace as just some of the names inThe Running Man’smain cast.Wright’s dystopian thriller movie, which will be distributed by Paramount Pictures, was originally scheduled for release on July 27, 2025.

Now, Paramounthas announced thatThe Running Man’srelease will move to November 14.This move was reportedly done to take advantage of access to IMAX screens. As a result of the move,The Running Man’snew datemeans it joinsNow You See Me: Now You Don’tand Neon’sKeeper.

What This Means For The Running Man

With the new release date, it will mean more access to IMAX screens.Previously, the King adaptation was set to joinPredator: BadlandsandDie My Loveon November 7. However, this new move by Paramount is strategic as it means thatThe Running Manwill be able to coverIMAX screensmore effectively.

Typically, IMAX screenings are limited and scheduled in blocks, giving one major film premium placement before being rotated out for the next big release. WithPredator: Badlandsconfirmed for IMAX release, this would have putThe Running Manin competition with the franchise. Instead,The Running Manhas its own one-week slot betweenPredatorand theWicked: For Goodsequel.

Our Take On The Running Man’s Release

The Running Man’srelease dateis quite an important topic, asthe remake will be debuting in the same year in which King’s book was originally set. As a result, its connection to the timeline is quite eerie. Given that the original movie is a cult classic, it makes sense that Paramount will want to capitalize on the hype.

MovingThe Running Maninto a better position for access to IMAX screenings will also give the film its time to shine beforeWicked’ssequel.Wickedmovie debuted with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score, and there’s no doubt the second film will be a spectacle. So, although we’ll have to wait one week more, it will be worth it.
