Part of the interesting aspect of the crime proceduralHigh Potentialis the expanding connection between Morgan and Karadec. When Morgan was initially offered the job as a consultant, Karadec was against the idea, but as the first season progressed, the two bonded.

While Morgan’s perspective on cases has proven invaluable, the connection between Morgan and Karadec also appears to be progressing, though slowly, beyond the professional. A new addition toHigh Potentialseason 2, however, might make sure that the possibility of a romance between the two moves even more slowly.

How Jesse Wagner Can Derail Morgan & Karadec’s Budding Romance In High Potential Season 2

Jesse Wagner Is The New Police Captain

Jesse Wagner will be introduced as the new police captaininHigh Potentialseason 2. Played by Steve Howey, Wagner’s introduction likely means Keith David will not be back as the captain we saw in season 1 of the series.

The character is already described as a captain who likes to be heavily involved in cases, which would be a marked difference from the previous captain, who only appeared in one episode of the first season. That could make Captain Wagner a very interesting addition to season 2 already, but his character description has another note.

CaptainWagner is also described as taking a liking to Morgan. That might mean that the new captain is simply appreciative of her skills while consulting for the police department, or it could also mean that Captain Wagner might take a more personal interest in her.

Either way, that means Wagner will be front and center, complicating Morgan’s life inHigh Potentialseason 2. With Wagner in the middle of the storylines in season 2, that means he very well could be in the middle of the developing dynamic between Morgan and Karadec.

High Potentialseason 2 premieres on ABC on June 24, 2025.

It seems unlikely Morgan would become romantically involved with the captain, since the fathers of her children are part of her story in the show, and she has a long-distance relationship withTom at the end ofHigh Potentialseason 1already. Wagner’s presence may still serve to slow down any potential romantic development between Karadec and the consultant.

Adding a new character to the main team is enough to shake up the dynamic between the characters, but it could actually serve Morgan and Karadec’s developing relationship well.

Why It’s Better For High Potential To Stretch Out Morgan & Karadec’s Will-They/Won’t-They Story

More Build-Up Allows For More Character Development

With the way dramas likeHigh Potentialwork, it seems inevitable that Morgan and Karadec will end up together. That does not mean they should find themselves in a romantic relationship immediately. Instead, it makes sense forHigh Potentialto provide plenty of build-up to romance.

Morgan has already had a major love interest in the series, the father of her youngest children is still a big part of her life, and the father of her oldest daughter is the reason she even decided to consult for the police department. Morgan’s romantic relationships are all over the show already.

The series has already promised to provide morebackstory for Morgan and Ludo’s relationshipinHigh Potentialseason 2. Morgan’s search for information about what happened to Roman also has to be resolved. Throwing another love interest into the mix before those stories play out is too much.

Morgan needs to put all of the love interests in her past to bedbefore she gets into another new relationship. Closure on all of those other relationships also helps to provide further character development for Morgan and her kids.

While the audience knows a lot about Morgan’s relationships with her children and her own abilities, much of her actual past is left to the audience’s imagination.High Potentialhas to allow Morgan to grow and develop further before finally putting her and Karadec together.

The same is true for Karadec. Unlike Morgan, the audience has not seen any love interests for the detective.Karadec should have the chance to explore other relationshipsas well. The audience should also have a chance to get to know him beyond his work as a detective.

Keeping the two characters apart will only allow the characters to grow and better serve the storylines in future seasons ofHigh Potential.
