With Ted Black’s New York past dealt with, the narrative has made another big shift, with a larger focus on the relationship between Stuart and Ted. Of course,Suits LAwouldn’t be complete without flashbacks, so despite resolving things that haunted Ted initially, the show continues to use bizarre flashbacks to try and expand the characters. Meanwhile, every other relationship in the show implodes.
Suits LA Is Obsessed With Backtracking
Both in terms of digging into the characters' pasts and creating twists that are hollow and lack real payoff,Suits LAspends much of its time trying to fake out the audience. Moving the story to LA meant the characters put on a face, concealing true motives, and constantly switching sides. The result is a show that attempts to insert clever twists, but only comes off as having no clear direction.

While the relationships are part of what madeSuitsgreat, and the spin-off hoped to create some similar connections between the cast, the characters fall flat. With some drama and backstabbing to try and expand their stories, all that brings toSuits LAis more hollow, unlikable, and tiresome characters. Even characters who had strong starts, like Rick Dodson and Erica Rollins, are quickly devolving into something considerably less charming by this episode.
But beyond the characters, the story is quickly jumping from one plot to another, changing dramatically and losing focus. To maintain an engaged audience, each episode has to have a compelling central narrative and the entire season should build towards something bigger.Suits LAtried to do both, and now things are falling apart as the thin plot grows ever thinner in episode 10.
What Is Suits LA All About?
Suits LAbuilt up Ted Black as a central protagonist with a dark past. Then, he was stabbed in the back in a way that could define his character’s future. But 10 episodes later, everything that has been established appears to be resolved, inconsequential, or reversed. And yet, there are still three more episodes left before season 1 concludes.
Every episode takes these characters who are intended to be larger than life, and highlights how small, insignificant, and changeable they are.
