A new international trailer for James Gunn’sSuperman(2025) just dropped, and it features Guy Gardner’sGreen Lanterncharacter (played by Nathan Fillion) constructing a giant middle finger. It’s easily the most crass moment audiences have seen from the film so far, but it’s nothing compared to some of the outrageous acts other Green Lanterns have pulled in the comics.

DC’s most outrageous Green Lantern moment came in Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo’sInjustice 2#63, when Lobo briefly wielded a power ring. After punting Dex-Starr,the Red Lantern cat, into orbit, Lobo followed up with an over-the-top display of disrespect by constructing a giant, phallic construct.

Lobo then slammed the giant construct into Red Lantern Atrocitus, sending him into a violent free spin. The moment perfectly captures Lobo’s brand of unfiltered chaos and gives DCU audiences a taste of just how controversial his upcoming onscreen debut could be, with or without a Green Lantern ring.

Lobo Becomes the Most Unhinged Green Lantern in DC History

Injustice 2#63 by Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo

InInjustice 2, a war is raging across the galaxy between the Red Lantern Corps and the Green Lantern Corps, one that demands the intervention of the Justice League (including Superman), as the Green Lantern forces are dwindling. In a moment of desperation, Salaak gifts Lobo with a Green Lantern ring with no other options left. When he enters the fight in outer space, he wastes no time ensuring his presence is known by kicking Dex-Starr. To add insult to injury, he targets fellow Red Lantern, Atrocitus, with a construct so explicit that it can’t be said or shown on-panel.

Even before gaining a Green Lantern Ring,Lobo was always a controversial figure. After all, this is an intergalactic bounty hunter who has acquired immortality simply because he’s been banned from both Heaven and Hell for being too violent. It’s easy to see why when he’s done heinous things like decapitating Santa Claus and orchestrating a massacre across the North Pole. As unhinged and obscene as he may be, he has always been scarily efficient at what he does, hence whyLobo is on Superman’s level.
