The CEO of Take-Two, the publisher behindGrand Theft Auto 6, has addressed the possibility of a second delay, while simultaneously reaffirming his commitment to releasing the game on time. Easily the most anticipated game of the decade,GTA 6was initially slated for release in 2025; however, this past May,it was not-so-abruptly delayedto June 08, 2025, after long-standing rumors that its release date would be pushed back.

In a new interview withCNBC, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick addresses the possibility ofa second delay toGTA 6’s release date. While he doesn’t count it out entirely, when it comes to releasing the game on time, he says, “My level of conviction is very, very high, obviously.” That said, he cautiously adds, “Rockstar’s whole stock-in-trade is to have these extraordinary expectations, and still beat them. I know that’s their goal.”

Take-Two CEO Says GTA 6 Is the “Primary Focus”

Other Rockstar Games Take A Back Seat

Amid concerns about releasing on time, though, Zelnick reaffirmed what many fans likely already guessed: thatGTA 6is still Rockstar’s top priority, and they intend to deliver on expectations. He says, “Rockstar does have a lot of other things going on, but [GTA] is… the primary focus.”

Of course, he’s careful not to mention what any of these “other things” might be - they could beRed Dead Redemption 3, or the long-rumoredBullyremaster/remake/revival. Whatever they are, though,it sounds like they’re on the back burnerwhile Rockstar is hard at work on its biggest upcoming release and most profitable cash cow.

The Odds Of GTA 6 Coming Out On TIme Are “Very, Very High”

But It Doesn’t Sound Like A Delay Is Impossible

At this point,no news aboutGTA 6can surprise me. We all saw the first delay coming, andits potentially higher price tagis looking more likely than ever.

So really,I wouldn’t be too surprised to seeGTA 6pushed back a little further- although I would be surprised if it were moved by more than a couple of months at this stage.

However, Zelnick makes it clear thathe ranks the likelihood ofGTA6being released on time “very, very high,“and it does sound like Rockstar is thoroughly committed to making this new date work.

Sothere really is a good chance we’ll seeGTA 6on its new release date- really the only thing standing in the way is the reality of developing such a massive, ambitious game. It takes a lot of time and a lot of resources to make something likeGTA 6, and even Rockstar can only go so far.

Even so, I wouldn’t count out the chances of a delay. We’ve still seen so little ofGTA 6that it’s difficult to estimate how far along it is in its development, how much progress has been made since the first trailer. We’ll just have to wait and see whetherGrand Theft Auto 6manages to pull off its May 26 release.
