While most people consider the Jungle Inferno patch from 2017 to be the last major update supported by Valve, the players have kept the game alive by supporting fan events. The package, which totals around 61 GB, contains the biggest drop from Valve’s source developer depository.Earlier leaks from Valve games such asLeft 4 Deadwere recently uploaded, so it might have been the precursor to this bigger revelation.
Richterovertime claims that the asset repository contains a huge number of never-before-seen maps, models, PSDs, and the like. Quite possibly, this leak may contain everything concerning the game. He also notes that this might be the last official content drop for the game, just because of the sheer size of the archive. He then proceeded to attach some files as proof of the contents, including screenshots of an unused train yard map and the Mercenary Park beta, among others.
Considering thatTeam Fortress 2is mostly being supported by the communityat this point, perhaps it can ask Valve for permission to utilize some of the leaked data, or maybe the company will officially release some of the maps and models for community use. While the files at hand were most likely obtained via dubious means, they’re now out in the world for everyone to see. It would definitely make many of the game’s supporters happy to see new content.
WithTeam Fortress 2’s continued popularity, it’s only a matter of time before more treasures are uncovered from the files within. The possibilities are endless, especially if this is implied to be the most complete collection of game files and conceptual content. With Valve being the target of one of the biggest leaks in gaming, there might be more discoveries to come. Perhaps, it may be time for the gaming giant to revisit their repository and beef up their data security options to avoid this kind of massive data theft from happening again.
