What starts as an anime based around the simple premise of handing schoolgirls guns turns into a heartfelt story, full of twists and unexpected developments.
Having first aired in July 2022,Lycoris Recoilrevitalized the idea of training young orphaned girls into super soldiers. Takina Inoue is one of these assassins who operates under the code name “Lycoris.” However, she’s transferred out after endangering her squad during her last mission. While lying low, she’s tasked with running a cafe alongside another disgraced agent, Chisato Nishikigi.

Back by Popular Demand, Lycoris Recoil Sets Attention on Future Projects
In an interview with ScreenRant during Anime Expo, a producer forLycoris Recoilconfessed that the team wasn’t finished with the anime after having published theadditional side stories inLycoris Recoil: Friends are Thieves of Time. While these extra episodes were welcomed entries into the franchise, Shunsuke Sugimoto revealed more is in store for the anime’s future.
“We’re working on a variety of projects, such as visuals and more, for the anime. It’s very important to me that fans enjoy what’s coming in the future so that they can cheer us on. For example, we listened to the fans’ voices on social media, saying they want to know what happens after season one.
That’s why we created Lycoris Recoil: Friends Are Thieves of Time. And there are even more unannounced projects in development.”
Although not explicitly stated, Sugimoto hints that there could be even more installments forLycoris Recoilin the future, whether that means fans will finally get asecond season that expands uponLycoris Recoil’sexisting storyor a spin-off featuring a new cast. Regardless of the direction, it’s clear producers are just as hungry for moreLycoris Recoilas fans are.
Return to Lycoris Recoil with Japan’s Blu-ray Release in October
Friends Are Thieves of Time’s Shorts Will be Included
To further promote the series and ensure popularity is backed by fans’ demands,Lycoris Recoilwill be releasing its Blu-ray edition in Japan. It’ll include all 13 episodes of season one, the six additional shorts released over the summer, and no doubt exclusives just for the new set.
