The most recent King adaptation fell into this latter category. This wasThe Life of Chuck, which, like aStand by MeorShawshank Redemption, was not a horror film. While it did not do well at the box office,The Life of Chuckwas critically acclaimed, boasting an 81% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes.

One of these positive reviews came fromScreenRant’s Mae Abdulbaki. She gave the movie 8 out of 10 stars and said that it was “elevated by an excellent cast.”

The year of King adaptations still has a lot of exciting releases in store. This includes Francis Lawrence’sadaptation ofThe Long Walkand Edgar Wright’s remake ofThe Running Man. Another of this year’s already-released King adaptations, however, has just gotten a streaming release date.

The Monkeyhas just gotten a streaming release date.Directed by Osgood Perkins, the adaptation of King’s short story of the same name tells the story of a pair of twin brothers who find an old toy in their attic, which becomes linked to a series of gruesome and traumatic events.

The Monkeyreceived strong reviews, amassing a 77% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes. Thisincluded a 6 out of 10-star review fromScreenRant’s Abdulbaki, who appreciated the “off-the-wall humor.” Some people leaned more positively on the film, saying it was one of the better King horror adaptations in years.

PerHulu,The Monkeyiscoming to the platform on August 7. This comes a few months after the horror was available to purchase on digital platforms starting on April 4.

UnlikeThe Life of Chuck,The Monkeyhas already done well at the box office. Thefilm made $68.8 million worldwideduring its run. This is sizable for a horror film, especially one with a reported budget of around $10 million.

This means that the film is more likely to become a streaming hit, as people are more likely to either want to watch it again or have heard of it due to its successful theatrical run. As August 7 approaches, it will be interesting to see if the film ever tops the Hulu charts.
