The new drama fromThe Chosencreator Dallas Jenkins casts aBridgertonstar, with the Biblical series moving forward at Prime Video. Since its debut in December 2017,The Chosenhas been one of the most consistent hits on streaming. It has also proven to be a reliable box office player, with the franchise grossing $140 million worldwide from its various theatrical runs.
That success was part of why Amazon MGM Studios signed a deal with Jenkins' 5&2 Studios earlier this year. As part of the agreement, Prime Video is now the U.S.streaming home forThe Chosen. But the deal also includes developing further projects and new dramas. One of those projects, which involves a key biblical name, is taking a major step forward.
Prime Video has announced that it has orderedJoseph of Egyptto series, withBridgerton’s Adam Hashmi set to star in the lead role of Joseph. Hashmi is set to play Lord Adams inBridgertonseason 4. He’ll also appear in the new season of the Apple TV+ drama,Criminal Record.
Production is currently underway onJoseph of Egypt, an eight-episode limited series, with work on the religious epic taking place in New Mexico. It is co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios and 5&2 Studios, and will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. An exact premiere date has not yet been announced.

Even allowing for variance in those numbers, it’s impressive enough to boost the religious drama subgenre, and it’s no surprise thatotherChosenspinoffsare being discussed.Joseph of Egypt, just on its own,is a familiar tale that could help Hashmi break out.
