Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 4 is an excellent phonewith a lot to love, but the small 1.9-inch cover display on the outside is still one of its biggest downfalls. With the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5, Samsung could finally give it the upgrade we all want with a substantially bigger cover screen.
Many expected Samsung to finally upgrade the display and tweak the design with the Z Flip 4 that arrived earlier this year. Unfortunately, it’s mostly unchanged from the previous generation. As a result, the cover screen is so tiny that most users fold the phone open for just about any task. However, that could finally change in 2023.
According tothe popular leaker Ross Young, who is the CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will feature a screen nearly twice the size on the outside. While the wording is unclear, he says we can expect a 3-inch or bigger cover screen with the Flip 5.
And while Samsung improved the cover screen software on its latest release, increasing the screen size to around 3 inches or bigger would give us much more real estate to enjoy. Plus, third-party apps could improve the experience even further.

That’s not all, either. Young states that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will also sport a new hinge design that may reduce the visibility of the crease on the bigger 6.7-inch internal display. We’ve also heard reports that Samsung isusing a new supplierfor the front-facing camera and could make other refinements to its folding phones.
Samsung typically only uses the same design for a few release cycles, so we’re hoping for notable improvements on the next model. Who knows, maybe we’ll get a bigger outer screen, better cameras, an invisible crease, and a more durable display. If so, it’ll only help the foldable gain popularity.
We’re not expecting the Fold 5 and Flip 5 until August or September of 2023, so we have a while to wait before we learn more.
