Wednesdayis full of weird and wonderful characters, most of who have returned for season 2, but one key Addams Family member has shockingly been recast. After season 1 cemented itself as one of Netflix’s biggest ever shows, it is no surprise to see the horror series continuing its momentum with the peculiar story getting even more interesting.

While some viewers may be left a little frustrated thatWednesdayseason 2, part 1, endedon a cliffhanger, they won’t have to wait long for part 2, which premieres on September 3. However, fans may still be adjusting to one new face, as an important Addams Family member quietly switched actors ahead of the new season.

Alongside adding plenty of big names to the show such as Lady Gaga, Steve Buscemi, Christopher Lloyd, Joanna Lumley, and many more,Wednesdayseason 2’s cast featured numerous returning characters, but while most of these unique personalities have retained their actors from the first season, the Addams Family’s loyal driver, Lurch, will no longer be played by George Burcea.

Wednesday Season 2 Recast Lurch’s Season 1 Actor With Joonas Suotamo

Despite George Burcea doing a great job as Lurch in season 1, Joonas Suotamo surprisingly took over the mantle during the show’s second installment. The Finnish actor is best known for playing Chewbacca in variousStar Warsprojects, such as the most recent trilogy as well asSolo, and he was also a professional basketball player prior to his acting career.

His latest role is drastically different from anything he’s done before, but Suotamo has slotted in seamlessly toWednesday’s cast, despite playing such a notable character. With theAddams Family not being a huge focus inWednesdayseason 1, it made the transition a little easier, especially since Lurch is more of a supporting character.

Still, recasting such a recognizable character isn’t a choice the producers would have made lightly, and it seems like it was Burcea who actually made the decision not to return.

Why George Burcea Didn’t Return As Lurch In Wednesday Season 2

Not only did he look the part, but George Burcea managed to embrace all the unique characteristics that make Lurch such an interesting part of theAddams Familyfranchise. It seemed as though the actor enjoyed playing the character as he even teased reprising his role, but he confirmed on Instagram that he wouldn’t be returning for personal reasons.

Without confirmation on what those personal reasons are, everything else is pure speculation, but it will certainly be interesting to see whatdifferences Suotamo brings to the Addams Family member asWednesdaycontinues. Lurch may not be the most prominent character in the show, but he certainly helps sell its quirky nature, making him more important than meets the eye.

Thankfully, Suotamo has already gotten off to a strong start as the family’s chauffeur, and it looks like he could potentially be given an even bigger role inWednesdayseason 2 and beyond.
