The Netflix fantasy show is based on the comic book series of the same name and stars Tom Sturridge as Dream, the personification of dreams who is one of the Endless, a group of beings that represent various natural forces. The upcomingThe Sandmanseason 2is set to end the series, which originally debuted in 2022 and spawned the short-lived 2024 spinoffDead Boy Detectives.
Netflixhas now revealed thatThe Sandmanseason 2 will be split into two parts that premiere on July 3 and July 24respectively. Netflixhas also unveileda gallery of new first-look images fromThe Sandmanseason 2. Quite a few of them showcase Dream in various environments including a grand ballroom and a room overgrown with plants, but they also reveal the return of Lucifer (Gwendoline Christie) as well as a glimpse at a reunion of the Endless who were previously part of season 1, which is shown in an image of an enormous candlelit room in which Death (Kirby), Desire (Mason Alexander Park), Despair (Donna Preston), and Dream are gathered together. What This Means For The Sandman Season 2
The Endless Are Finally Assembled
One of the most important things that is revealed in these new first-look materials is the fact thatseason 2 will mark the first time that The Endless are seen together onscreenin the series. Although the four Endless seen assembled in the gallery were part oftheSandmancastin season 1, three of the seven siblings did not appear during the course of those 11 episodes. However, the roster is now being fully filled out with Destiny, Destruction (Barry Sloane), and Delirium (Esmé Creed-Miles), as seen in the new video.
The incoming cast ofThe Sandmanseason 2 also includes Ruairi O’Connor as Orpheus, Freddie Fox as Loki, Clive Russell as Odin, Laurence O’Fuarain as Thor, Ann Skelly as Nuala, Douglas Booth as Cluracan, Jack Gleeson as Puck, Indya Moore as Wanda, and Steve Coogan as Barnabas.

However,it is unknown exactly how much this onscreen union will fulfill the story laid out by the original comics. In January 2025, it was announced that season 2 would end the series. This came in the wake of aNew Yorkmagazine article that broke down the recent sexual assault allegations against the comics books' author Neil Gaiman. While this is a minor ramification of the situation, this follow-up to theending ofThe Sandmanseason 1may be cut shorter than was originally the intention.
Our Take On The Sandman Update
The Sandmanseason 2 being split into two parts is not an uncommon move for the final season of a Netflix series. For instance,Ozarkseason 4 was split into two parts whileCobra Kaiseason 6 was split into three. However, the fact that they are dropping just three weeks apart is more unusual. Usually, split Netflix seasons have hiatuses of at least two months, so it remains to be seen if this approach makes a substantial difference to the season’s viewership on top of the controversy surrounding the show.
