The showrunners behindAnne Rice’s Talamascateased the idea of characters from other Immortal Universe shows appearing for crossovers. AMC’s Immortal Universe is quickly expanding, withTalamascaseason 1set to be its third series. The new series will premiere on AMC on Sunday, July 16, 2025, and will consist of six episodes in its first season.
Screen Rant’sAsh Crossan spokewithco-showrunner Mark Lafferty at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, who shared thatfans of the previous series will “recognize some characters here and there.“He addresses how the Talamasca secret society was introduced inMayfair Witches, but how the new show allows for an alternate approach to the universe.

Lafferty also went on to explain that, although there might be crossover elements between the various shows, one wouldn’t have to watch all of them to understand. He explains that the Talamasca is responsible for keeping the peace between vampires, witches, mortals, and others, but that the shows “don’t depend on each other.” Read the full quote below:
Ash Crossan: What is the connection with the Anne Rice verse?

Mark Lafferty: So, the Talamasca does show up in, as John said, some of Anne Rice’s books, and it shows up a little bit in Mayfair Witches, but the way that you see it in Mayfair, it’s just New Orleans, and a little bit of Amsterdam. I think what John’s idea was from the start, and what we have explored in season 1, is, “Okay, you got a little taste of that thing, you got a little look at the sunlight in the door, and now we’re kicking the door right open, and we’re saying, ‘This is your every day. We’re going to take you from the world of just vampires and just witches to this organization that actually has to keep the peace between all those people and the rest of the mortal world.'”
Ash Crossan: So, is there any opportunity for crossover?
Mark Lafferty: 100 %. Yeah, there is. I think people who are big Anne Rice fans, and who have watched all the other shows, you’ll recognize some characters here and there if you keep your eye out. I think we love that these worlds can intersect, but they don’t depend on each other. You don’t have to have watched all of the other shows in order to appreciate our show or to understand it. But if you have, I think there’s a lot of rewards there for you.
What The Talamasca’s Crossovers Mean
Talamasca’s Trailer Already Revealed A Major Crossover Character
From theTalamascatrailer, which AMC released today, audiences have already glimpsed one of the upcoming crossover characters who will appear in the new show.Actor Eric Bogosian, who plays journalist Daniel Molloy inInterview with the Vampire, appeared briefly in the trailer. Surely, he won’t be the only one.
The compelling part ofTalamasca, as Lafferty said, is that it sort ofworks as connective tissue between these worlds audiences have already been introduced to. The trailer distinctly mentions that the organization will have to monitor both vampires and witches, establishing this premise.
Talamascaseems like the perfect series for crossover stories, given that it wouldn’t detract from the central narratives of the other shows.
Until now, the Immortal Universe has primarily been associated with the Anne Rice name and the shared network, but as AMC develops its stories, it could lead to more crossovers.Talamascaseems like the perfect series for crossover stories, given that it wouldn’t detract from the central narratives of the other shows.
Our Take On Talamasca’s Crossover Opportunities
Talamasca Needs To Remain An Individual Project
While shared universes aren’t inherently a bad thing, I feel that there’s a recurring trend among franchises of claiming that audiences won’t need to watch every project to stay caught up, yet it ends up mattering more as time goes on. Maintaining individuality seems vital for the Immortal Universe in particular.
Talamascais already going to receive a significant portion of its viewer base fromInterview with the VampireandMayfair Witchesfans, but that’s also part of the problem. UnlikeInterview with the Vampire, which had a famous movie to lure in potential audiences,Talamscais more niche to Anne Rice lovers.
In order forTalamascato succeed, it needs to stand alone with its own identity. The same should go for the other two shows, as well as future Immortal Universe projects.
