Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2, episode 5, “The Bird Always Knows”.Dead Cityhas introduced several new faces in season 2, but one survivor has officially become the franchise’s most annoying character since Andrea. DuringThe Walking Dead’sfirst few seasons, the apocalypse was still completely new, making the survivors' erratic behavior more understandable; however, Andrea continued to rub audiences the wrong way throughout her time on the show. Alongside having one ofThe Walking Dead’s most disappointing deaths, Andrea possessed few of the traits that made her character so popular in the source material, adding to how frustrating her TV counterpart was to watch as she frequently made bad decisions.
Although the zombie universe has since featured several characters that didn’t receive a particularly warm reception from fans,Andrea remains the benchmark when it comes to irritating survivors. However, oneDead Cityvillain is arguably even worse, consistently making mistakes that are hard to believe for someone who was still around almost two decades after the outbreak started. While it makes sense for antagonists to be a little harder to relate to, thisDead Cityseason 2 characterdoesn’t have the charm of Negan or the intimidation of the Governor. Instead, they are just a source of pure frustration.

When she was first introduced, I was optimistic that Narvaez might be a cruel yet badass villain, but with each scene, she became more and more infuriating. Her arrival with New Babylon showed she was one of the faction’s most no-nonsense soldiers, hanging a civilian for desertion despite the man being forced to conscribe. This made it clear she wasn’t to be messed with, but over time, it became obvious Narvaez wasn’t as intimidating as she first seemed. Sure, she held plenty of authority in New Babylon and could boss people around, but her survival instincts were severely lacking.
Bizarrely, she sailed right into an ambush despite being warned that the Croat knew she was coming. She then proceeded to get more of theNew Babylon Federation’s soldiers killed inThe Walking Deadspinoff before taking over the Central Park group against Perlie’s orders. Eventually,Narvaez’s attempt to punish Maggie was what ultimately led to her demise, as the public hanging went wrong, causing her and what was left of New Babylon’s soldiers to be killed by walkers. While she was understandably committed to completing her mission, Narvaez’s inability to listen to anyone else made her difficult to watch.

Given she was always supposed to be an antagonist, Narvaez’s annoying traits were likely more deliberate than Andrea’s, but it didn’t stop me from rolling my eyes at her terrible decisions. Some ofDead City’s other villains have thrived because, alongside their cruelty and sinister intentions, they are also fairly cunning and have solid plans. In contrast, Narvaez completely failed to make strategic choices and slowly made her group weaker and weaker, which unsurprisingly caused her own death.
Andrea & Narvaez Are Annoying For Very Similar Reasons
Both Characters Have A Habit Of Making Mistakes & Refusing To Learn From Them
Despite being very different characters,Andrea and Narvaez flaunted similar traits that made them extremely annoying. For the most part, both survivors seemed adamant that they were always in the right, and even when they were proven wrong, the duo refused to learn. The decision for New Babylon to travel to Manhattan via ferry was immediately questioned by Maggie, who gave strong evidence that it would be a mistake, yet Narvaez went through with it anyway. Likewise, traveling through the tall grass and taking overDead City’s Central Park groupwere also warned against, with both decisions inevitably costing lives.
Still, Narvaez continued to believe she was right until her dying breath, making it her most toxic attribute. Unfortunately, Andrea showcased similar traits in the original show, despite being part of Rick’s group. While divisive, Andrea was never intended to be an antagonist, yet her selfish behavior caused her allies all sorts of problems. She demanded to have a gun only to shoot Daryl with it, and she also refused to kill the Governor on several occasions, despite the villain being the group’s biggest enemy. Sadly, this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Andrea’s mistakes.

She continuously refused to believe she was wrong, and even after repeatedly screwing up, she failed to learn her lesson until it was far too late, making it no big mystery as to why viewers found her so insufferable. As a result, both characters demonstrating such similar behavior puts them amongThe Walking Dead’s most frustrating characters, and while Andrea was undoubtedly more important to the franchise overall, she and Narvaez will always be remembered for their baffling decisions.
Narvaez Has Far Fewer Redeeming Features Than Andrea Did
Narvaez’s Villain Status Makes Her Almost Impossible To Like
While Andrea may have been difficult to watch sometimes inThe Walking Dead’s earlier seasons, she did at least have some redeemable qualities, unlike Narvaez.Andrea was often single-minded and reckless, but she did still care about the main survivors, even though she didn’t always show it. Moments like standing up to Ed in season 1, helping look for Sophia, and attempting to broker peace between Rick’s prison group and Woodbury showed that, deep down, she did have a good heart.
On the other hand, Narvaez was pure evil, and while she hid behind wanting to uphold the law and serve New Babylon, the reality is she was nothing more than a power-hungry villain. At first glance, it seemed likeNew Babylon could replaceThe Walking Dead’s CRM, potentially acting as a lower-scale version ofThe Ones Who Live’s main antagonists. Instead, characters like Narvaez showed there was little depth to the group, and while the likes of Perlie and Benjamin have at least shown morality and a desire to use New Babylon for good, Narvaez is the complete opposite.

All Narvaez seemed to want was control, suggesting there was never going to be any redemption for her.
She seemed to enjoy punishing people, whether that involved locking them up or publicly executing them. Additionally, her overall goal never appeared to be anything more than to further New Babylon’s mission, making it hard to empathize with her. All Narvaez seemed to want was control, suggesting there was never going to be any redemption for her, whereas Andrea at least fought for peace, highlighting the big differences between them.

Fans of the TV series may not have particularly fond memories of Andrea, but her comic character was so much better. Not only did she survive significantly longer, but she was far more likable in the source material and proved time and time again that she was a capable ally.Andrea also became an expert marksman and was one of the most fearless characters in the entire story, even acting as Rick’s main love interest in the comics. She never had a relationship with the Governor - unlike her TV counterpart - and courageously helped defend the prison from Woodbury.

Although the comic version was still somewhat stubborn, this trait was important to her becoming a reliable and hardened survivor who would always put others first. In the TV universe, Andrea’s personality came across as more thoughtless and careless, whereas the comic version was far more strategic and methodical, but still willing to listen to her peers. As a result, comic Andrea was one ofThe Walking Dead’s most popular characters among fans of the source material, showing just how different AMC’s iteration of the survivor ended up becoming.
