The fan theory states that Beerus and Whis have taken an interest in Goku and Vegeta because they’re training them to be the new God of Destruction and his Angel attendant, once Beerus' term has come to an end. There are several pieces of evidence which point to this, such as Beerus explicitly discussing the fitness of various characters to be a God of Destruction.

Goku’s Voice Actor Independently Arrived at This Theory

Schemmel Came Up With the Fan Theory On His Own

In the new interview with Goku’s voice actor in English, Sean Schemmel, asshared on X (formerly Twitter) by @TooRealUnreal, Sean claims that he and Chris Sabat (the voice of Vegeta) discussed the possibility of Goku and Vegeta ascending to godhood earlier on during the recording ofDragon Ball Super.

Schemmel indicated that he felt the fan theory had some legs, but admitted that he didn’t actually know any more about upcoming events than fans in the audience did. Schemmel also stated that he never read ahead in theDragon Ball Supermanga, and thus has no knowledge of the events of the unadapted story arcs in that series.

Dragon Ball Superhas definitely hinted towards this storyline on more than one occasion, particularly in the manga. While neither Beerus nor Whis have explicitly confirmed this as their intention, there’s a lot of reason to believe in the fan theory.

What Makes This Dragon Ball Fan Theory So Perfect

The God in Training Fan Theory Fits Well With What’s Been Shown

The first big piece of evidence for this theory is the fact that during the Tournament of Power, one character, Top, was shown to be chosen as his God of Destruction’s successor, making him able to use the Destroyer God’s power of Hakai. Top was a phenomenally difficult opponent as a result, but he also proved how Gods of Destruction are chosen.

Secondly, Goku’s Ultra Instinct ability is explicitly that used by the Angels; Angels like Whis are said to be in a permanent state of Ultra Instinct.Similarly, Vegeta’s Ultra Ego ability involves him making use of the power of a God of Destruction, and he learned this technique directly from Beerus.

Finally, there have been several scenes where Beerus and Whis discuss potential successors. One such scene happened after Beerus and Whis laid eyes onGohan’s Beast transformationfor the first time, as the two speculated whether Gohan would actually be a suitable candidate personality-wise, as he clearly had the power already.

While Sean Schemmel’s take on the fan theory doesn’t change much, it’s certainly interesting to know that even Goku and Vegeta’s voice actors caught onto the hints and discussed the possibility. Hopefully,Dragon Ball Superwill return one day soon, and fans will finally find out just what Beerus and Whis have in store for Goku and Vegeta.
