It’s a little-known fact that theJohn Wickfilm series got its own video game -John Wick Hex- and after this Thursday, it’ll be even harder to come by. A stylishly directed action thriller franchise with plenty of top-notch gun-fu,John Wickis partially credited with relaunching Keanu Reeves' career (along with other roles).John Wick Hexis a strategy game based on the eponymous film series, first released in 2019 shortly after the third film,Parabellum. It features an original story, framed as a prequel to the films, and a unique model of strategic gameplay that cleverly reimagines theJohn Wickstyle.

John Wick Hexis being delisted from all platforms on June 25, 2025, according to a newSteam Communitypost by its publisher. This means that you’ll no longer be able to buy it via any digital storefront - but if you already own a copy, you can keep it and play it indefinitely. While it’s not totally unheard of for delisted games to come back at a later date, for now, there’s a good chance that the next two days are your last chance to buy the first and, to date, only video game adaptation ofJohn Wick.

What’s Happened To John Wick Hex?

Steam Community Post Leaves Questions Unanswered

The Steam Community post onJohn Wick Hex’s delistingdoesn’t provide many details about exactly why it’s being removed. It’s incredibly brief and to the point: “John Wick Hex will be removed from sale on all platforms beginning July 17th, 2025,” before explaining that players who already own the software can still keep and play it as long as they like. The whole thing is two sentences with a greeting and a sign-off.

So we’re left to guess as to whyJohn Wick Hexis being delisted. There’s no fee to keep a game live on Steam, and, as far as I can tell, there are no online servers forJohn Wick Hex, so it’s probably not strictly a financial reason. It seems likely thatBig Fan Games' license to adapt theJohn Wickfilms may have expired. That might require them to delist the game and cease any profit-making based on the John Wick name.

An entire game being delisted due to a loss of license is not a terribly common scenario, but it isn’t totally unheard of, either. Similar shutdowns do occur pretty frequently, although they’re most often related toalways-online game servers shutting down. At leastJohn Wick Hexwill still remain playable if you already own it.

What Makes It Unique

John Wick Hexisa unique kind of strategy game.Screen Rant’s reviewcompared it to “a board game version of Superhotviewed from a top-down perspective.” Stealth and combat are time-dilated in order to represent John Wick’s signature style of impossibly fast gunplay. It’s measured in two-second increments: you’ll have to manage the time of your every move, and balance it against enemy strategizing.

All of this is helpfully displayed in an overlapping timeline at the top of the UI, which you’ll have to keep a close eye on to ensure your chosen tactics aren’t wasting time. You take the time to look around, debate, and strategize, then John Wick acts decisivelyin less than a second.

John Wick Hexalso uses a slick, cel-shaded art style, which is at its best in its comic book-inspired cutscenes. While its story and action sequences ultimately fail to match the consistent quality and excitement of the film series they’re based on, they’re unique in their own way, and pretty cool to watch unfold. If you’re a fan of the film series, or you’re just interested in playing a unique strategy game, you should definitely pick up a copy ofJohn Wick Hexwhile it’s still available.
