Themusicof the Manchester, England-formed rock bandOasishas had its series of highs and lows since the group’s formation back in 1991. Led by brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, Oasis took the ’90s Britpop world by storm with the release ofLPs likeDefinitely Maybeand(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?in 1994 and 1995, respectively.

Despite the band’s lasting career success (especially during their'90s “Wonderwall”-defined run), it’s the prickly personalities of the Gallagher brothers themselves that might’ve become Oasis’s best-known signature. With notoriety worthbeing mentioned in film, the Gallaghers have earned everything from tabloid headlinesto sly, meaningful Jay-Z coversin response to their disputes. This turbulence also ledto Oasis' initial undoing.

The Gallagher Brothers' Rift Caused The Lengthy Hiatus Of Oasis

Constant Conflict Led To Their Split

When looking at the history of Oasis and the lengthy infighting between Liam and Noel Gallagher, it seems remarkable that they formed a band at all, let alone a group that found international success. Eventually, Liam and Noel’s constant clashing caught up to them in 2009, when a fight between the pair on tourled to Noel quitting Oasis.

Liam and the remaining Oasis members formed the band Beady Eye (with Liam going solo after Beady Eye split in 2014), while Noel branched out into the group Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. While the barbs between the brothers periodically continued, it seemed as thoughOasis was well and truly over.

Until 2023, that is, when Oasis reunion talks began to pick up speed. By 2024, their return became official, with a full-fledged tour beginning recently with multiple nights in Cardiff, Wales. Despite questions about the tour even occurring and the strength of the band after sixteen years away, the results of the first gigs back were quite positive.

The Band’s First Show Back Was Highly Praised For Its Musicality

This Also Proved True In The Follow-Up Gig

Joined by founding member/guitarist Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs, longtime guitarist Gem Archer, bassist Andy Bell, and veteran session drummer Joey Waronker, the Gallagher brothers and Oasis tore up two nights at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. Both setlistsleaned heavily on the band’s storied catalog of hitswith songs like “Supersonic,” “Champagne Supernova,” and “Live Forever.”

The Gallaghers sounded as in tune and on the same page as they have in years, with Liam’s crisp, sneering vocals making for a perfect foil against Noel’s searing guitar work. This doesn’t sound like a cash-in, reunion phone-in job for the boys of Oasis;this seems like it’s the real deal.

It’s Unknown If The Group Will Debut Any New Music During Their Upcoming Tour

At This Time It Seems Unlikely

While there was some initial speculation that the Oasis reunion tour might coincide with new music from the band, at this point, that rumor seems more like smoke than fire. Initial chatter from Liam Gallagher on social media about the subject was later deemed to be a “joke.”

A new expanded edition of(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?is on the way in Octoberto coincide with the album’s 30th anniversary. So that will have to satisfy Oasis fans for now, along with an energized live band for the tour that seems as engaged and united as the Gallagher brothers have been in a very long time.
