It’s been eight years since the launch ofPUBG, and it’s not quite the same game it once was. Since its initial launch, the base game has gone through a lot of changes, amid new platform launches, and a lot of battle royale competition. Now, it’s saying goodbye to several of those platforms.

Inan incredibly detailed breakdown on the official blog,PUBG’s team has provided a comprehensive overview of what to expect when the version transition occurs. As a concession, thecurrent-generation versions of the game will get a significant upgradeonce this fateful day hits.

PUBG Support Is Ending For PS4 & Xbox One

Support Will End By The End Of The Year

On November 13, support for the PS4 and Xbox One editions ofPUBGwill be pulled. Instead, the only console versions that will be supported going forward are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The team says this is a “necessary step” for the game, and will provide a “more stable gameplay environment.” The team promises"improved visuals and smoother framerates"as a result, potentially directly after the transition takes place.

The team has provided framerate and resolution data ahead of time, so we know what to expect. The Xbox Series S version will run at either 1080p/60FPS, or 1440p/30FPS, while the PS5 edition will run at a flat 1440p and 60FPS.The Xbox Series X and PS5 editions support dynamic 4K resolution, as well as 2160p/60FPS. You can see the difference between the original and upgraded PS5 versions in the gallery above.

Thankfully, as expected, all your data and purchases will be preservedonce service ends for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game.

It’s The End Of An Era For PUBG

And For Previous Generation Consoles

PUBG: Battlegroundskicked off in earnest in 2017, andhas been trucking along ever since, despite a great deal of competition in the battle royale space.WhileFortniteoften steals all the glory with massive IP-based crossovers, thePUBGteam has hosted some crossovers of its own, amid many content updates andthe occasional side project.

AlthoughPUBGfans who were playing on PS4 and Xbox One will no doubt be disappointed, I hope this leads to good things for current generation console owners. Hopefully, the team can continue to innovate and make the game better for everyone with fewer technical limitations in place. Also, the game is still readily available on PC and mobile devices.
