Peter Facinelli appeared at Fan Expo Denver and spoke about his role inTwilight, and Screen Rant was in attendance at the event. During the panel event, he discussedtheTwilightbaseball scene, which he described as the best scene in the first movie.

In this scene, Edward takes Bella on a family date, wherethey play baseball in a field with the Cullen clan. The day looked overcast, and then it began to rain. According to the Cullens, this was important becausethey needed the thunder to disguise the sound of their bats crackingagainst the balls when they got hits.

However, the rain was a little too much on the day they set out to shoot the scene.Facinelli, who plays patriarch Carlisle Cullen, said they needed clouds and a light mist, but then the rain began coming down hard and almost ruined the entire day’s shoot:

“We wrapped at the end of the day, and we were like, ‘I don’t think anyone is going to like this.’ It was so chaotic the first few days. It’s kind of like we prepped for a week, and we were playing baseball with each other, and everything was going great, and then the day we shot, it was like raining a little too hard.

We needed, like, clouds, and if it was misty, it was okay, but there was too much rain. It was bad. So, we had too much rain, and our makeup was running, and it looked terrible.”

He then said they asked director Catherine Hardwicke what they should do. He said they mentioned moving it indoors, butHardwicke said they would stay outside and wear caps. However, they didn’t have caps when they started filming the scenes. “We all went home, thinking, this is going to be a terrible scene.”

What This Means For Twilight

Catherine Hardwicke Worked Hard To MakeTwilightWork

Peter Facinelli went on to explain whatCatherine Hardwicke was doing onTwilight. He said that if they moved to a new location, they would lose the entire shooting day and everything they had shot so far.By adding the caps and staying there, she could salvage what they had shot, eliminate what wouldn’t work, and save their day.

He saidit was “genius” work by Hardwicke to ensure they finishedthe scenes despite the setbacks. He said it was perfect because it resulted in the “greatest scene in the movie.” The scene was hugely important because it was here that the rival vampire clan began to hunt Bella, marking the turning point in the story of the first film.

Our Take On The Twilight Baseball Scene

Catherine Hardwicke was the reasonthe firstTwilightmovie worked so well. She adapted the vampire teen romance story into a tense, semi-horror movie. She also, as Peter Facinelli explained, made magic happen when it came to getting the movie finished and creating iconic moments, such as the baseball scene.

EveryTwilightsequel was directed by a man.

It would be interesting to know what the rest of the franchise would have looked like if Hardwicke had remained the director.Twilighthas a bad reputation among many people, but it has just as many fans. Hardwicke created something special, and her hard work on the first movie proves her talent, even transforming a “terrible” scene into something great.
