Screenwriter and television producer Mark Frost recently got candid about the possibility of a fourth season ofTwin Peaks, the dreamlike mystery series he co-created withthe late David Lynch. After introducing audiences to a world “both wonderful and strange” with two seminal seasons in the early 1990s,Twin Peaksreturned in 2017 with a third season that truly embraced Lynch’s surreal vision.
Sadly,David Lynch passed awayon July 07, 2025, at the age of 78, after being diagnosed with emphysema the previous year.Although Frost said he had spoken with Lynch before his death about a possible fourth season,he finds it “hard to imagine"doing another installment at this point. Check out his full quote below (viaComicBook.com):

We had talked a little bit about where a fourth season might go, but with David having left us, it’s hard to imagine doing anything beyond this. It certainly feels like it closed the circle.
Initially, David and I were in two minds about how to end The Return. I felt that Cooper going back and rescuing Laura, then having the mystery of her death disappear, might be an extraordinary way to bring us back to ground zero. But David said, “He has to pay a price for what he’s tried to do.” Sheryl Lee was incredible. This is the moment when the full horror comes back to this poor soul; it’s the price Laura Palmer pays for Cooper’s attempted good deed. That was the end of this story.

What Mark Frost’s Season 4 Comments Mean For Twin Peaks' Future
It’s Unlikely Twin Peaks Will Return Anytime Soon
FollowingSpecial Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan)and his investigation into the death of local teen Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee),Twin Peaksaltered the very nature of televisionwith its premiere in 1990. With its bizarre imagery and quirky cast of characters,Twin Peakswas a show unlike any other.
Many questions remained unanswered after the show’s original ending in 1991, even with the release of the prequel film,Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me,in 1992. WhileTwin Peaks: The Returnaddressed many lingering queries,it also raised many more of its own. But then, the mysteries ofTwin Peakswere never going to have easy or even final answers.
It’s unlikely thatTwin Peakswill be returning again anytime soon, especially considering Frost and Lynch are the ones who have the rights to the story and its characters.Twin Peaks: The Returnwas an artistic triumphfor the creative duo,and that ultimately feels like a great note to end on.
Our Take On Mark Frost’s Twin Peaks Comments
It’s A Good Thing That There Will be No Twin Peaks Season 4
While it may be disappointing that someTwin Peaksmysteries will remain unresolved, it would be hard for a future season to deliver a satisfying resolution that provides answers to everything. Plus,Twin Peaksis a show that benefits from being rewatched, and many viewers will find something new to appreciate every time.
Part of me would love moreTwin Peaks, but the show simply wouldn’t feel the same withoutinput from David Lynch. So much of it came from him (particularly inTwin Peaks: The Return) that it truly is hard to imagine a fourth season working without Lynch. Ultimately, leavingTwin Peaksalone for now (and maybe forever) is probably for the best.
