While xQc is as popular as streamers come, that doesn’t come without controversies. In fact, it seems that xQc lives off of creating a little bit of drama. The latest controversy is, however, totally organic, as he was asked a simple question by a streamer he was joined with on the audio chat. The streamer Kai Cenat, one of the most popular streamers on Twitch himself, asked whether xQc paid his moderator. While he surely realizeshow important moderators are for Twitch streamers, the answer was a simple “no,” after which he asked Cenat the same question in response.

One of Cenat’s own mods had asked him to ask xQc the question, perhaps to try and see whereTwitch’s rising star’s policies with moderators stand compared to xQc. In Cenat’s view the moderators have volunteered to do the work and there’s no reason to pay for that. However, xQc expanded on his answer to give a bit more nuance to his policy. According to xQc, there are “creative reasons,” and he doesn’t want the relationship to turn into something weird. For him, it’s not necessarily about the money, he doesn’t want the drama that might result.

Of course, forthe millionaire streamer xQc is, it might not be important whether he pays the mods a little, but it seems to be something at least part of the mod community is struggling with. However, in xQc’s view, the workload is not that big since it’s divided between the volunteers, and it’s better that they stay passionate about moderating rather than doing it for the money.
