Burrell, who plays real estate agent, magician, and family man Phil Dunphy inModern Family, took a step back from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood and relocated from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City directly followingModern Familyseason 11’s ending.
While speaking withPeople, Burrell shared that he is very content with his decision to move his wife and kids to Salt Lake City from California. He also discussed how he never felt like a nature fanatic, but it’s now starting to catch up with him. Check out his comments below:
“It’s just been spectacular. We moved here right after [Modern Family] ended, and I don’t have any regrets. It’s been lovely and a great place to raise the kids…
My parents weren’t really those kinds of people. So at first, when we moved here, it almost felt like cosplay, like we were pretending to be people who were outdoorsy… And now we really truly love it.”
What This Means For Ty Burrell
Now that Burrell is no longer living in Hollywood, he has fewer acting roles as of late. He has mostly done voice work sinceModern Familyended, including in the animated seriesDuncanville, but he hopes to return to on-screen roles soon. However, Burrell has been cast in the upcoming reboot of the 1959 crime drama seriesTightrope!from Roku.
Burrell has mentioned in the past that he has had a strong connection with Salt Lake City, Utah, for a long while. Salt Lake City is where the actor met his wife of 25 years, Holly Burrell.
He traveled back and forth between there and New York City for a long stretch of time. It seems that while Burrell once resided in California and many other parts of the US, his heart is in Salt Lake City.

It seems that Burrell is living his best life in Utah, so it’s most likely the best thing for him to reside in a place that agrees with the soul. If he is content with staying in Utah and still manages to get roles, then it’s the perfect place for him to be.
Burrell is not the only cast member ofModern Familyto move from LA, with Ariel Winter relocating to Nashville, Tennessee, earlier this year. This showcases how sometimes, Hollywood will make its stars burn out, and they have to find their own peace.
