What She The People’s Trailer Means For The Show

Tyler Perry Is Returning To Comedy

In recent years, Tyler Perry’s projects have been confined to streaming services, most notably Netflix, where he has a multi-year deal to write, direct, and produce films and series. This includes the filmsA Fall from Grace,A Jazzman’s Blues,Mea Culpa, andThe Six Triple Eight, and theseriesBeauty in Black. He also had the moviesDivorce in the BlackandDuplicityreleased on Amazon Prime Video. However, every one of these movies or shows have been either dramas or thrillers, and were panned by critics for offering little beyond their genre conventions.

She The Peopleis Perry’s first comedic project in years, representing his return to the genre that he is best known for, having playedMadea in a dozen movies. As a comedy series following a female political figure,She The Peoplecould end up having a lot in common with HBO’sVeep, which ran for seven seasons, won multiple Emmys, and is often cited as one of the best comedy series of all time. Though it’s unlikelyShe The Peoplewill achieve that level of success, it’s certainly a promising sign that Perry is returning to comedy.
