Warning: Spoilers ahead for Wednesday season 2, part 1!
Jenna Ortega’sWednesdaycharacter tackles a handful of new mysteries in season 2, including what LOIS is and how it might connect to Tyler. TheHyde monster fromWednesdayseason 1is now locked up in Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital, but Wednesday wastes no time reuniting with her former enemy.
Dr. Rachael Fairburn, anew character inWednesdayseason 2, works at Willow Hill and is leading Tyler’s care team following his capture. Since she can’t seem to crack him, she allows Wednesday to visit. When that method doesn’t work, she makes a deal with Marilyn Thornhill, aka Laurel Gates, Tyler’s master.

Willow Hill also holds the answers about who has been watching Wednesday and what’s up with the killer crows. Wednesday’s investigation unearths sketchy Outcast obituaries that link to someone named “Lois” at Willow Hill, but it’s not a person at all; LOIS actually confirms the dark treatment of Outcasts at Willow Hill.
What LOIS Really Means In Wednesday Season 2
After infiltrating Willow Hill, Wednesday finds Fester, and the two look for answers connected to LOIS. They eventually find a hidden underground facility, discovering that “LOIS” is an acronym for “Long-Term Outcast Integration Study.” The secret program also unveils what really happened to fellow Outcasts who were thought to be dead.
The LOIS room features six cells, with Wednesday recognizing Patricia Redcar, Julian Meiojas, and others from their obituaries. Willow Hill seemingly faked their deaths to use the Outcasts as “living experiments,” but the details only get darker from there after learning that Dr. Fairburn’s assistant, Judi, is behind LOIS.

Why Judi Was Experimenting On Outcasts For The LOIS Initiative
Despite her cheery personality, it turns out that Heather Matarazzo’sWednesdaycharacter is indeed a villain. Judi is Augustus Stonehurst’s daughter, who was born a “Normie” but gained abilities from her father’s risky experimentation on Outcasts. More specifically, Stonehurst was able to turn Judi into an Avian, explaining the killer crows inWednesdayseason 2.
Stonehurst’s attempt to turn Normies into Outcasts also caused his own downfall, since he lost his mind while trying to become a DaVinci, a newOutcast species introduced inWednesdayseason 2. Still, Judi kept the secret program up and running, holding Outcasts hostage to “extract their abilities and share it with Normies.”

Fester’s electricity ends up cutting off Willow Hill’s power, allowing all inmates to go free. All the Outcasts from the LOIS room go after Judi, except for the woman in the last cell. Wednesday personally helps her get out safely, including when Tyler finds them in the hallway. Interestingly, the woman might be directly connected to Tyler.
LOIS Might Explain What Happened To Tyler’s Mom At Willow Hill
When Wednesday looks into the cellblocks holding the Outcasts, the last one she encounters is a woman wearing a dress, who has seemingly been held captive for a long time. She even asks Wednesday to leave her alone unless they’re there to kill her. Based on what’s known about the character, it seems very likely that the woman in the last LOIS cell is Tyler’s mom, Francoise Galpin.
Mentioned inWednesdayseason 1, Francoise was also a Hyde like Tyler, who was eventually committed to Willow Hill when she was unable to control her powers after Tyler was born. She reportedly died a short time later, or at least that was what her family was told. It now seems likeTyler’s mom has been at Willow Hillsince her institutionalization.

What Tyler’s Mom Could Mean For The Rest Of Wednesday Season 2
InWednesdayseason 2, part 1’s ending, Tyler breaks out of Willow Hill, knocking out Wednesday in the process. The LOIS mystery has mostly been solved, so now the focus will be on finding Tyler and keeping Enid safe. Francoise may be the key to locating Tyler, especially now that she’s his only living family member.
Tyler’s dad, Donovan, fell victim to Judi and her murderous crows after his investigations into her Willow Hill experiments. While Marilyn Thornhill considered Tyler her son, she was only his Hyde master. More importantly, Thornhill’s return was cut short inWednesdayseason 2 since Tyler brutally killed her before escaping.

Tyler likely won’t go far, especially since he’s not done with Wednesday. It would then be a matter of whether Francoise would fully side with her son or find a way to get him to overcome his brainwashed mind, taking control of his Hyde identity. The latter would be the best option in potentially saving Enid inWednesdayseason 2.
