However,Wednesdayseason 2’s teasers officially confirmed thatPugsley has powers of electricitylike his Uncle Fester, which he began developing around the same age that Wednesday and Morticia developed their psychic abilities. Wednesday Season 2 Reveals The Addams Family’s Powers Skipped Over Gomez

As the Addamses discuss Pugsley’s new abilities on the drive to reunite withNevermore Academy’s other Outcasts, the series finally addresses the status of Gomez’s powers. Pugsley addresses Gomez directly about it in the car, stating, “It’s so weird it skipped you, dad,” indicating thatthe male Addamses’ hereditary electrokinetic power skipped over Gomezand went directly to Fester and Pugsley.

It seems there’sno true explanation for why the Addamses’ powers skipped over Gomez, but rather that it was an unfortunate fluke. The potential for those powers still exists in his genes, thus why they were passed onto Pugsley, but Luis Guzmán’s Gomez was never able to exhibit them.

The fact that Pugsley speaks about the powers of electricity being associated with male Addams family members also reiterates thatWednesday’s hereditary psychic powersare more heavily derived from her Frump ancestry rather than the Addams lineage. Wednesday does still have psychic-powered Addams ancestors contributing to her inherited abilities, such as Goody Addams, but they’re primarily influenced by the female Frump line, such as Morticia, Ophelia, and Hester.

Why Gomez Is Still An Outcast Even Though He Doesn’t Have Powers

Although Gomez doesn’t have powers, he’s still considered an Outcast. As Morticia reiterates to the family in the car, being an Outcast isn’t about “what you may do,” but more about who you are and your frame of mind.Gomez attended Nevermore, was raised in the Outcast world, and still has supernatural DNA in his blood. He may not physically express those genes with powers, but he’s an Outcast at heart.

Everything else about Gomez fits within the confines of the Outcast realm. His macabre nature, bug-eating oddness, and outlook on the world represent an Outcast. Plus, it’s always possible thatGomez could one day develop powers as a latent gene, perhaps highlighting him as a late bloomer within the Outcast world. However, having Gomez lack powers givesWednesdayanother way to represent being an outcast among Outcasts.
