A potentialWednesdayspinoff receives an enticing update from one of the show’s Addams Family actors. Season 1 of the Jenna Ortega-led series proved to be a record-breaking streaming hit for Netflix, and season 3 was already renewed ahead of season 2’s debut on the streaming platform.

In 2023, Netflix’s plans to expand this IP were reportedly already underway, with rumors of a spinoff show revolving around Wednesday’s quirky Uncle Fester Addams (Fred Armisen). Since then, there have not been many updates about thischapter of theWednesdayuniverse, although show creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar recently confirmed that they have been prioritizing seasons 2 and 3 over the spinoff.

Uncle Fester smiles creepily in Wednesday season 1

While speaking withDeadline, Armisen was asked if the Uncle Fester spinoff is still in development and if he feels any pressure when bringing comedy to parts of the show steeped in the horror genre. Check out his comments below:

No, there’s no pressure. It’s so fun to do. It feels very organic. That’s all I can really say about it as far as the anticipation of it all. I love getting to do it and to embody this character who’s existed for a long time. That’s the fun of it.

What This Means For The Uncle Fester Spinoff

Armisen’s update is further confirmation that the focus continues to be onWednesdayseasons 2and 3 instead of the Uncle Fester spinoff. This is not a bad thing for Armisen, though, who continues to love playing the character and is excited about where he may go in the future.

Whether it’s in the mainWednesdayseries or in a spinoff, Armisen relishes playing the iconic Uncle Fester and does not feel any pressure. He will go on playing Wednesday’s uncle in Netflix’s ongoing adaptation of the Addams Family, regardless of what form those stories take.

While the current focus is onWednesdayseason 2, part 1’s endingand what the rest of the season holds, there is still a future for the Uncle Fester show given Armisen’s enthusiasm. However, it will likely not come out until afterWednesdayseason 3 at the earliest, which means it is still years away from possibly happening.

Our Take On Fred Armisen’s Uncle Fester Spinoff Update

Even though this update could be considered disappointing, it is arguably the best case for the spinoff. It has been clear thatWednesdayis still the priority for Netflix, and it is best for Gough, Millar, and their creative team to remain focused on the main showinstead of also having to juggle another show.

At the same time, Armisen is still deeply invested in playing Uncle Fester. When the timing is right, he will be ready to make the character the star of his own series, where he can continue organically bringing comedy to the story despite the many elements of horror.

For now, though, Armisen’s can simply be enjoyed as a key member ofWednesdayseason 2’s castand story. Uncle Fester currently works well as a character who makes occasional, impactful, and memorable appearances inWednesday.
