James Gunn shares when theDC Universeaudience could expect to see Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman unite in the new franchise. Asthe DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters"is reimagining various Justice League heroes, it also means a new take on the DC trinity in live-action.

WhileDavid Corenswet’sSupermanmovieis ready to debut in theaters this month, DC Studios is still working on their reboots for Batman and Wonder Woman. However, Gunn is now giving fans a better idea of when the iconic trio will share the screen in the DCU.

During a recentDeadlineinterview, Gunn was directly asked about the DCU staging a crossover between Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman. While it is definitely on the table, it may not be as soon as some have been predicting. Check out Gunn’s response below:

While Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are"of course"going to meet in the DCU at some point, Gunn stresses that it won’t be"in the next movie.“WhenDeadlinefollowed up on whether there are discussions of it happening in the next few years, Gunn jokingly added that"there is a lot of chatter in my head that does a lot of things!”

What James Gunn’s DC Trinity Update Means For The DCU

While Gunn’s comments are brief, there are some key takeaways about Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman’s future in the DCU. To begin with, this sheds some more light on what’s to come with the DCU’s upcoming movie stories, and potentially shows the focus is on building DC’s trio up separately for now, challengingsome of the rumors that Gunn is writing aWorld’s Finestfilm.

Sincethe DCU’s Wonder Woman castinghas yet to begin, which is also the case for Batman, fans will likely see Diana Prince and Bruce Wayne in their respective solo movies before they team up with Corenswet’s Superman. It’s also a sign that Gunn’s DCU won’t go in the direction that the DCEU took during the early days withBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Our Take On James Gunn’s DC Trinity Update

It’s refreshing to hear from Gunn that while this will obviously be a crossover that will happen at some point in the DCU,it’s not going to get rushed in DC Studios' superhero reboot. Once there are actors who have beencast as the DCU’s Batmanand Wonder Woman, the focus should be on getting their solo films underway.

Given the many missteps that the DCEU franchise took, the DCU timelinesimply needs to focus on properly building out this continuity before worrying about crossovers. Hopefully, whenever Superman joins forces with Batman and Wonder Woman in theDCU, the wait will have been worth it.
