Summary
WhenHadesfirst released back in September 2020, it took the world by storm. Seemingly out of the blue, one ofthe best Indie games of all timemade its way quietly to PC and Nintendo Switch, but while most players were taken by surprise byHades' sudden rise to fame, there was a select group of fans that knew what was coming for a long time. Having entered early access back in December 2018, many PC players had been enjoyingHadesfor quite some time before its full release almost two years later, and in 2024, PC fans are going to get to do it all over again withHades 2.
Announced back during last year’s Game Awards,Hades 2, as the name suggests, will be a direct follow-up to Supergiant’s first Greek mythology roguelike, and just like its predecessor, it’s also going to be hitting early access first for PC players. Just a few weeks ago, Supergiant announced thatHades 2’s early access periodwould begin sometime in Q2 2024. While that’s still a ways off, it’s probably the best decision for all parties, actually letting the game breathe on its own.

Hades 2 Has Timed its Early Access Perfectly
Back whenHades 2was first announced, it was heavily rumored that the game would be launching in early access sometime before the end of 2023. Though eager fans are probably a little disappointed that it isn’t hitting that rumored launch window, it’s actually ideal that it doesn’t. 2023 has been an absolutely wild year for video game releases, with at least two major releases hitting every month since essentially the start of the year. And despite being just a few months away from the end of 2023, the game releases aren’t stopping anytime soon but actually doing the exact opposite.
October 2023 is by far the busiest month for video game releasesthis entire year, and maybe one of the busiest gaming months in recent memory.Assassin’s Creed Mirage,Forza Motorsport,Lords of the Fallen,Marvel’s Spider-Man 2,Super Mario Bros. Wonder,Alan Wake 2, andGhostrunner 2are all set to release within days of one another, and that’s just October. Though November and December are a lot less busy, there are still some huge games set to drop before the year is out, includingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3andAvatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
But it doesn’t look like this release train is slowing down at the end of 2023 either.Early 2024 is starting to look more and more busyby the second.Alone in the Dark,Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown,Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, andTekken 8are all currently slated for January 2024, whileSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League,Helldivers 2, andFinal Fantasy 7: Rebirthare all set to come out in February. And those are just the games that have confirmed release dates. There’s still a vast array of titles in the pipeline just waiting to get an official release date, and any one of those could have had the potential to overshadowHades 2.
Thankfully,Hades 2is currently set to launch in early access in Q2 2024, which puts its release date sometime between April and June 2024. This means thatHades 2is managing to skate straight by all of 2023’s huge releases, as well as those that are set to drop at the start of next year. Hopefully, this means thatHades 2will be able to pull in the audience it deserves, and while big games could still release during Q2 2024,Hades 2has beat them to the punch, firmly cementing itself in fans' minds months in advance.
Hades 2will launch in early access in Q2 2024 on PC.
