Ormewood had a lot going on inWill Trentseason 3, but that doesn’t mean the show had to neglect one of his biggest stories, which is why it must return in season 4. Jake McLaughlin’s character has had quite an arc in the series.Ormewood began as a quasi-villain.He was arrogant and ignorant, but now, he’s a completely different man.

ABC is holdingWill Trentseason 4 for midseason, meaning it won’t premiere until early 2026 (likely in January, based on season 3’s release date).

Will Trentpulled off Ormewood’s impressive redemption arcas he went from an abusive cop and neglectful husband/father to one of the best characters. He learned how to be there for his kids and stepped up to the plate at home. Ormewood even became more understanding at work. Through this, though,Will Trentpushed one of his storylines to the side.

Will Trent Season 3 Sidelined Ormewood’s Ongoing Divorce

Gina Told Ormewood She Wanted A Divorce In The Season 2 Finale

At theend ofWill Trentseason 2,Ormewood’s wife, Gina, told him she wanted a divorce and full custody of their kids. The couple had been struggling, but Gina’s ultimatum still came as a shock. Yes, all the cheating prepared the audience for a breakup between Ormewood and Gina. However, her decision to take him to court was unexpected.

Earlier in the season,Gina checked herself into a mental health facility, and Ormewood was left to be a single father. While it was difficult for him, it allowed his character to grow exponentially. Ormewood was thrown into the deep end, testing if he had what it takes to be a reliable father. Thankfully, for Ormewood, he rose to the occasion.

Ormewood’s efforts weren’t enough for Gina. He was initially disappointed, but he assured her he wouldn’t let his kids go without a fight. Gina, though, was unyielding. It seemed like nothing would change her mind, leading many to believe that the divorce and custody battle would play a big role in Ormewood’sstory inWill Trentseason 3.However, that wasn’t the case.

This isn’t the first timeWill Trenthas neglected Ormewood’s family dynamic. As some might recall, Ormewood had two daughters (Cooper and Janie) and one son (Max) in season 1. Now, he only has one daughter and one son, as the series retconned the number of children he has. Since then,Will Trenthas just pretended like Janie never existed.

Ormewood briefly mentioned his legal troubles at the beginning ofWill Trentseason 3. But that didn’t last for very long. The ABCcop showpushed Ormewood’s ongoing divorce and custody battle to the background in favor of other plotlines (including Ormewood discovering he had a brain tumor). So,it’s unclear where Ormewood and Gina stand going into season 4.

Will Trent Season 4 Must Balance Ormewood’s Divorce With His Health Scare In Season 4

Ormewood’s Life Hangs In The Balance After The Season 3 Finale

While Ormewood’s health is important (especially aftertheWill Trentseason 3 finale’s cliffhanger), season 4 should also circle back to his other personal struggles. It seems like his divorce and custody battle have been all but forgotten in the midst of Ormewood dealing with his brain tumor. Buthis health scare shouldn’t and wouldn’t make his other issues disappear.

We know thatOrmewood and Gina were fighting in court, and that he was having trouble paying his legal fees. That’s why he took a job asAriana Madix’s bodyguard inWill Trentseason 3. Since then, though, it has been all about Ormewood’s brain tumor, and viewers need an update on his status concerning his marriage and custody of Max and Cooper.

OnceOrmewood survives inWill Trentseason 4(because, let’s be honest, a sudden seizure isn’t going to take him out), the ABC police procedural series must do a better job of balancing all his problems. They can even overlap.Ormewood’s brush with death could convince Gina to drop her bid for full custodyof their children.

Of course,Ormewood isn’t out of the woods yet.He still has an abnormal mass in his head, and after it’s removed, he could still be dealing with health struggles. The tumor might be cancerous, or maybe it’s benign, but it still caused problems. Whatever the case,Will Trentseason 4must find a delicate balance between Ormewood’s health and legal troubles.

Can Ormewood & Gina Still Get Back Together?

It’s Not Looking Good For The Couple

Ormewood and Ginareviving their romance inWill Trentseason 4is rather unlikely.Gina didn’t appear in season 3 at all,and Ormewood didn’t spend his time pining after his ex over the course of the season’s 18 episodes. Perhaps it’s for the best that he and Gina stay separated, though. Their relationship wasn’t healthy, to say the least.

If anything,Ormewood should move on from Gina in season 4.Once his divorce is finalized, he secures shared custody of Max and Cooper, and he has surgery to remove his tumor, Ormewood could start dating. He dipped his toes in the water with Ariana Madix. However, maybe it’s time for Ormewood to get a stable new love interest inWill Trent.
